Risk scores for predicting incident heart failure admission in patients with chronic coronary syndromes: validation in a prospective, monocentric, long-term, cohort study.
Heart failure (HF) admission in chronic coronary syndrome (CCS) patients has a prognostic impact. Stratification schemes have been described for predicting this endpoint, but none of them has been externally validated. ⋯ All tested scores showed significant discriminative ability for predicting incident HF admission in this independent validation study. Their discriminative ability was similar, with significant differences only between the two scores with higher and lower performance.

De Ritis ratio and long-term major cardiovascular adverse events in patients undergoing elective percutaneous coronary intervention.
The association of aspartate aminotransferase to alanine aminotransferase ratio (De Ritis ratio) with clinical outcomes in patients with chronic coronary syndromes (CCS) remains unclear. This study aims to assess the association of De Ritis ratio with adverse cardiovascular events in patients with CCS. ⋯ In patients with CCS undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention, an elevated De Ritis ratio was associated with long-term major adverse cardiovascular events.

ReviewThe influence of Viral protein R amino acid substitutions on clinical outcomes in people living with HIV: a systematic review.
The HIV viral protein R (Vpr) is a multifunction protein involved in the pathophysiology of HIV-1. Recent evidence has suggested that Vpr amino acid substitutions influence the pathophysiology of HIV-1 and clinical outcomes in people living with HIV (PLWH). Several studies have linked Vpr amino acid substitutions to clinical outcomes in PLWH; however, there is no clear consensus as to which amino acids or amino acid substitutions are most important in the pathophysiology and clinical outcomes in PLWH. We, therefore, conducted a systematic review of studies investigating Vpr amino acid substitutions and clinical outcomes in PLWH. ⋯ Vpr-specific amino acid substitutions may be contributors to clinical outcomes in PLWH, and future studies should consider investigating the Vpr amino acid substitutions highlighted in this review.

ReviewThyroid Hormone Beta Receptor Agonists For Treatment of Kidney Disease: A Promising Agent?
Chronic kidney disease is a common disorder affecting a significant portion of the adult population with high mortality and morbidity. Obesity and hyperlipidemia are prevalent in chronic kidney disease, and they may trigger fat accumulation in renal parenchyma and eventually fatty kidney. Chronic kidney disease and fatty kidney are also strongly associated with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Because they both lead to detrimental effects on organ function, they both need to be treated effectively to improve the outcome. ⋯ Thyroid hormone beta receptors are abundantly expressed in liver and kidney tissues, while both nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and chronic kidney disease share various similar pathophysiological mechanisms and triggers. Therefore, thyroid hormone beta receptor agonists may become a promising tool in the management of patients with chronic kidney disease.

Risk prediction of atrial fibrillation and its complications in the community using hs troponin I.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is becoming increasingly common. Traditional cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF) do not explain all AF cases. Blood-based biomarkers reflecting cardiac injury such as high-sensitivity troponin I (hsTnI) may help close this gap. ⋯ hsTnI as a biomarker of myocardial injury does not improve prediction of AF incidence beyond classical CVRF and NT-proBNP. However, it is associated with the AF-related disease heart failure and mortality likely reflecting underlying subclinical cardiovascular impairment.
