Meta AnalysisPredictive value of fragmented QRS for ventricular tachyarrhythmias in patients with acute myocardial infarction: A meta-analysis.
Recent studies indicated that fragmented QRS (fQRS) is associated with malignant cardiac arrhythmias in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). However, a systematic review and meta-analysis on this issue still have not been conducted. Thus, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to access the predictive value of fQRS for ventricular tachyarrhythmias (VTAs) in patients with AMI. ⋯ Our meta-analysis demonstrated that fQRS increases the risk of developing VTAs in patients with STEMI.

Review Meta AnalysisEfficacy and safety of everolimus treatment on liver transplant recipients: A meta-analysis.
Everolimus is an effective immunosuppressant in organ transplantation without impaired renal function. The present study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of everolimus therapy in liver transplant recipients. ⋯ Although everolimus combined with reduced CNI therapy significantly improved the renal function in liver transplant recipients, it did not influence the incidence of BPAR, graft loss and death. This regimen might be associated with an increased risk of adverse events, which needs to be elucidated further.

Meta AnalysisUric acid level, gout and bone mineral density: A Mendelian randomization study.
This study aimed to examine whether the uric acid level or gout is causally associated with bone mineral density (BMD). ⋯ Mendelian randomization analysis did not support a causal association between uric acid level, gout and lumbar spine or FN BMD.

Meta AnalysisNonalcoholic fatty liver disease increases the risk of gastroesophageal reflux disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Increasing evidence indicates that nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is linked to an increased risk of extra-hepatic conditions. However, it is currently uncertain whether NAFLD is associated with the risk of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of relevant studies to examine the association between NAFLD and the risk of GERD. ⋯ NAFLD is associated with an increased risk of GERD. However, future large and cohort studies are still needed to determine the causal relationship between NAFLD and the risk of GERD.

Meta AnalysisA revised systematic review and meta-analysis on the effect of statins on D-dimer levels.
D-dimers are generated during endogenous fibrinolysis of a blood clot and have a central role in diagnostic algorithms to rule out venous thromboembolism. HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, more commonly called statins, are known to have effects independent of LDL-cholesterol lowering, including antithrombotic properties. An effect of statins on D-dimer levels has been reported in a prior systematic review and meta-analysis, but methodological shortcomings might have led to an overestimated effect. To re-evaluate the association between statins and D-dimer levels, we systematically reviewed all published articles on the influence of statins on D-dimer levels and conducted a novel meta-analysis (PROSPERO registration number CRD42017058932). ⋯ This meta-analysis suggests an association between use of statins and reduction of D-dimer levels, independent of treatment duration and type of statin used. This effect is small but robust, and should be interpreted with caution.
