Review Meta AnalysisPrognostic value of hyperuricemia in patients with acute coronary syndrome: A meta-analysis.
The prognostic significance of elevated circulating uric acid level in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is conflicting. This meta-analysis aimed to assess the prognostic value of hyperuricemia in patients with ACS. ⋯ This meta-analysis suggests that hyperuricemia independently predicts MACEs and death in ACS patients. Determination of uric acid level has potential to improve risk stratification of adverse outcomes in ACS patients.

Plasma sMer, sAxl and GAS6 levels correlate with disease activity and severity in lupus nephritis.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether TAM receptors and ligands associated with the activity and severity of lupus nephritis. ⋯ These results suggest that plasma sMer, sAxl and GAS6 can be an additional clinical marker related to the disease activity and severity in LN.

Associations of secreted phosphoprotein 1 and B lymphocyte kinase gene polymorphisms with autoimmune thyroid disease.
Dysregulation of the type 1 interferon (IFN)-related signalling pathway predisposes one to autoimmune diseases. Possible associations of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of secreted phosphoprotein 1 (SPP1) and B lymphocyte kinase (BLK) of the type 1 IFN-related signalling pathway with autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) in an ethnic Chinese (ie Taiwanese) population were tested. ⋯ Genetic variants of rs13277113 and rs2736340 of BLK were associated with susceptibility to GD, HT and AITD in an ethnic Chinese population. Our results suggest the BLK may participate in the pathogenesis of GD, HT and AITD.

Gastrointestinal defects in gallstone and cholecystectomized patients.
Several gallstone patients complain of dyspeptic symptoms, irrespective of the presence of typical colicky pain. Symptoms often persist after a cholecystectomy. Systematic studies on dyspepsia and dynamic gastrointestinal motor function are missing in gallstone patients with preserved gallbladder or after a cholecystectomy. ⋯ Gallstone patients with the gallbladder "in situ" or after a cholecystectomy display dyspeptic symptoms. Symptoms are associated with multiple gastrointestinal motility defects involving the gallbladder, stomach and small intestine. After cholecystectomy, gastric emptying worsens.
