Prognostic role of the lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio in colorectal cancer: An up-to-date meta-analysis.
Although previous meta-analyses have proved that lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) is a prognostic factor in solid cancers, its prognostic role in colorectal cancer (CRC) remains controversial. We, therefore, conducted this up-to-date meta-analysis to evaluate the prognostic role of the LMR in CRC. ⋯ This up-to-date meta-analysis shows that a low LMR is associated with poor survival in patients with CRC, although the publication bias is existed. Large-sample multicenter prospective cohort is needed to assess the role of the LMR in CRC patients.

Identification of microRNAs as diagnostic biomarkers for acute myocardial infarction in Asian populations: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Recently, several studies have revealed the diagnostic value of circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) for AMI detection. However, the diagnostic capacity of miRNAs for AMI is still controversial due to the inconsistent results among studies. ⋯ MiRNAs may serve as promising diagnostic biomarkers in the early diagnosis of AMI. Further studies were needed to evaluate the diagnostic value of miRNAs for AMI before clinical application.

Safety of tumor necrosis factor-alpha inhibitors for treatment of ankylosing spondylitis: A meta-analysis.
Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic immune-mediated disease affecting the sacroiliac joints and the spine, manifesting with new bone formation and osteopenia. Five tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) inhibitors (infliximab, etanercept, adalimumab, certolizumab, and golimumab) are available for the treatment of AS, however, the results for the safety of TNF-α inhibitors in the treatment of AS are not consistent. ⋯ Due to the existence of the unstable factors, further studies need to be done to verify the result of this study.

Correlation between polymorphism of vitamin D receptor TaqI and susceptibility to colorectal cancer: A meta-analysis.
The meta-analysis aimed to investigate the correlation between the polymorphism of the vitamin D receptor (VDR) TaqI and susceptibility of colorectal cancer. Studies were extracted from the electronic databases of PubMed and Embase. The balance of heredity was estimated by the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium test, and heterogeneity was assessed by Cochran Q statistics and I test. ⋯ With no significant heterogeneities observed among the 4 models, the fixed-effect model was used to examine the pooled effect value. There were no significant differences among t vs T (OR = 1.01; 95% CI, 0.94-1.09; P = .70), Tt + tt vs TT (OR = 1.05; 95% CI, 0.96-1.15; P = .32), tt vs Tt + TT (OR = 1.01; 95% CI, 0.87-1.17; P = .92), Tt vs TT (OR = 1.03; 95% CI, 0.93-1.13; P = .62), and tt vs TT (OR = 1.00; 95% CI, 0.85-1.17; P = .98) with respect to increasing CRC frequency. No evidence showed that TaqI polymorphisms were significantly associated with susceptibility to CRC.

Cost-effectiveness of neck-specific exercise with or without a behavioral approach versus physical activity prescription in the treatment of chronic whiplash-associated disorders: Analyses of a randomized clinical trial.
Fifty percent of people injured by whiplash still report neck pain after 1 year and costs associated with whiplash associated disorders (WAD) are mostly attributed to health service and sick-leave costs in chronic conditions. With increasing health care expenditures the economic impact of interventions needs to be considered. ⋯ Neck-specific exercise was cost-effective from a societal perspective in the treatment of chronic WAD compared with the other exercise interventions. ICERS varied depending on health-related quality of life questionnaires used, but the addition of a behavioral approach was not cost-effective from a societal perspective. The prescription of physical activity did not result in any QALY gain and was thus not considered a relevant option.
