Portal vein thrombosis is a complication after liver transplantation and cavernous transformation of the portal vein (CTPV) is a result of portal vein thrombosis, with symptoms of portal hypertension revealed by an enhanced CT scan. Meso-Rex bypass is an artificial shunt connecting the left portal vein to the superior mesenteric vein and is mainly used for idiopathic cavernomas. This technique is also used for post-transplant portal vein thrombosis in pediatric patients thereby bypassing obstructed sites of the extrahepatic portal vein. Here we report about an adult patient who was treated by connecting the cystic part of the portal vein to the splenic vein instead of the superior mesenteric vein. ⋯ A Meso-Rex bypass intervention connecting the left portal vein to the splenic vein instead of the superior mesenteric vein after liver transplantation in an adult patient with right and common portal vein occlusions has been successfully performed as an alternative approach.

In this study, the molecular mechanisms underlying malignant transformation from oral lichen planus (OLP) to oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) were examined. ⋯ Keratinization and MHC class I antigen processing and presentation were activated during the malignant transformation from OLP to OSCC. Additionally, the olfactory transduction pathway may be important for OSCC.

Incidence and risk factors of deep venous thrombosis following arthroscopic posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.
The objective of this study was to identify the incidence and associated risk factors for deep venous thrombosis (DVT) after arthroscopic posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction. This study included 128 patients who underwent arthroscopic PCL reconstruction. Venography was performed on the operated leg 3 days postoperatively. ⋯ The rate of asymptomatic clots in the calf region was rather high after PCL reconstruction, and the rate of proximal clots was 4%. Older age, longer durations of tourniquet application, higher VAS scores and D-dimer levels, and complex surgical procedures were all substantial risk factors for DVT after PCL reconstruction. The treatment of DVT with batroxobin and anticoagulants was effective and safe.

Application of anterior debridement and reconstruction with anatomical screw-plate fixation for lumbosacral tuberculosis: A 2-year-plus follow-up.
This study aimed to determine the efficacy and safety of anterior debridement and reconstruction with anatomical screw-plate fixation in patients with lumbosacral junction tuberculosis (TB). A total of 48 patients (30 males and 18 females) diagnosed with lumbosacral junction TB were included in this study. All patients underwent surgery in our institution from January 2008 to July 2014, using anterior debridement and reconstruction with anatomical screw-plate. ⋯ Neurological performance and VAS scores were significantly improved compared with pre-operation (P < .05). Following standard anti-TB chemotherapy, anterior debridement and reconstruction with anatomical screw-plate fixation may be a feasible and effective therapeutical option for lumbosacral junction TB. This procedure can result in satisfactory bone fusion and deformity correction, and effectively restore lumbosacral junction stability.

Familial lumbar Scheuermann disease with idiopathic scoliosis in China: First case report.
Given that Scheuermann disease rarely occurs in the lumbar region and that the co-occurrence of Scheuermann disease and idiopathic scoliosis (IS) has not been reported-the etiology of Scheuermann disease and IS is not clear. In this case report, we present familaiar lumbar Scheuermann disease with IS, in a Chinese proband, who was successfully treated with surgery. ⋯ This series of lumbar Scheuermann patients with IS in a pedigree support the genetic contribution to Scheuermann disease. Therefore, this study provides some insight into the genetic etiology of Scheuermann disease with IS.
