Empathy and burnout of emergency professionals of a health region: A cross-sectional study.
The objective of this study is to assess the association between levels of empathy and burnout of emergency professionals in all the assistance levels. A cross-sectional observational study was conducted in the health region of Lleida and the Pyrenees with 100 professionals from the field of Urgency. Participation reached 40.8%. ⋯ Our findings suggest that the empathy of emergency professionals is associated with burnout. Hence, reducing professional burnout could help keep emergency professionals' empathy levels high, which in turn would ensure a better quality of care. Nevertheless, it would be necessary to carry out prospective studies to describe the profiles of burnout and empathy as well as their association and evolution.

A retrospective study comparing percutaneous and open pedicle screw fixation for thoracolumbar fractures with spinal injuries.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness between percutaneous and open pedicle screw fixation for treating thoracolumbar fractures with spinal injuries. ⋯ PPSF has a smaller incision, less intraoperative blood loss, shorter recovery time, higher safety measures on average compared with OPSF with respect to managing thoracolumbar fractures with spinal injuries.

Perceptions, attitudes, and current practices regards delirium in China: A survey of 917 critical care nurses and physicians in China.
The purpose of this study is to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and managements regarding delirium of intensive care nurses and physicans, and to assess the perceived barriers related to intensive care unit (ICU) delirium monitoring in China. A descriptive survey was distributed to 1156 critical care nurses and physicians from 74 tertiary and secondary hospitals across Shandong province, China. The overall response rate was 86.18% (n = 917). ⋯ In conclusion, most nurses and physicians consider ICU delirium to be a serious problem, but lack knowledge on delirium and monitor this condition poorly. The survey infers a disconnection between the perceived significance and current monitoring of ICU delirium. There is a critical unmet need for in-service education on ICU delirium for physicians and nurses in China.

Aim of the present study was to evaluate whether the presence of body shadows during virtual reality (VR) training with BTS NIRVANA (BTs-N) may lead to a better functional recovery. ⋯ Our results showed that body shadow may represent a high-priority class of stimuli that act by "pushing" attention toward the body itself. Further studies are needed to clarify the role of body shadow in promoting the internal representation construction and thus self-recognition.

Postmastectomy intensity modulation radiated therapy of chest wall and regional nodes: Retrospective analysis of the performance and complications up for 5 years.
To retrospectively evaluate the performance and complications of postmastectomy intensity modulation radiated therapy (IMRT) technique. From January 2010 to December 2014, IMRT technique was applied to 200 patients after modified radical mastectomy. The acute and late radiation toxicities have been followed up for 5 years. ⋯ The 2-year local-regional recurrence (LRR), distant metastasis (DM), and disease free survival (DFS) were 1.6%, 6.4%, and 92.80%, respectively. Postmastectomy treatment with the IMRT technique can reduce the incidence rate of radiation toxicity by decreasing organs at risk (OARs) irradiation. Patients with risk factors for radiation toxicity should be strictly surveyed throughout radiotherapy.
