Hemolytic jaundice induced by pharmacological dose ascorbic acid in glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency: A case report.
Hemolysis induced by high dose ascorbic acid (AA) in patients with G6PD deficiency has been reported, but is rare. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of a male with G6PD deficiency, coexpressed with cholecystolithiasis and cholecystitis, who developed extreme hemolysis and hyperbilirubinemia after receiving pharmacological doses ascorbic acid infusion. ⋯ Clinicians should bear in mind the possibility that vitamin C exposure may result in hemolysis in patients with G6PD deficiency, especially in those with known severe disease.

Clinical effects of extracorporeal shock-wave therapy and ultrasound-guided local corticosteroid injections for plantar fasciitis in adults: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
The argument on whether extracorporeal shock-wave therapy (ESWT) and corticosteroid injections (CSIs) exert an equivalent pain control or which is the better treatment for plantar fasciitis (PF) in adults remains to be resolved. It is important and necessary to conduct a meta-analysis to make a relatively more credible and overall assessment about which treatment method performs better pain control in treatment of PF in adults. ⋯ Our analysis showed that the pain relief and success rates were related to energy intensity levels, with the high-intensity ESWT had the highest probability of being the best treatment within 3 months, followed by CSI, and low-intensity ESWT. More high-quality RCTs with long-term follow-up time are needed to further compare the differences of CSI and ESWT for adults with PF.

The efficacy of first-line regimens for Helicobacter pylori eradication in different continents: A systematic review and network meta-analysis protocol.
Striking prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection has been convoluted with considerable resistance to various antibiotics worldwide. Although many eradication regimens have been introduced as the first-line therapies against H pylori, lack of appropriate multiple comparison studies makes hard to implement such results to the clinical practice. This project attempts to utilize a comprehensive network meta-analysis to pool the results of clinical trial comparing various first-line eradication therapies simultaneously in different continents. ⋯ This systematic review and network meta-analysis has been registered in the PROSPERO International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews, with registration number CRD42017077061.

Fuling Sini decoction for patients with chronic heart failure: A protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Chronic heart failure (CHF) is one of the most important cardiovascular diseases worldly, with high morbidity and mortality. Fuling Sini decoction (FSD) has been used in the management of CHF widely in China, while its effective evidence is not clear. A systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate FSD for CHF is lacking. Hence, we propose a protocol for systematic evaluation of its efficacy and safety for CHF. ⋯ CRD 42018110210.

Balanced crystalloids for intravenous fluid therapy in critically ill and non-critically ill patients: A protocol for systematic review and network meta-analyses.
The balanced crystalloids have become a substitute for saline for fluid resuscitation. Some studies have investigated the clinical effect and adverse event of differently balanced crystalloids, but they have no consistent conclusions. This study aims to assess and compare the effect of differently balanced crystalloids for intravenous fluid therapy in critically ill and non-critically ill patients using network meta-analysis (NMA). ⋯ CRD42018093818.
