Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-positive familial Mediterranean fever and hyperthyroidism: A case report.
Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is a genetic autoinflammatory disorder characterized by serositis and recurrent fever. Previous reports identified patients with antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-positive FMF, but vasculitis symptoms were not reported. ⋯ Appearance of ANCA and development of vasculitis should be considered in a clinical course of FMF with hyperthyroidism.

Contraceptive use and sexual health behavior remain a prominent public health concern in South Africa. Despite many government interventions, unplanned pregnancies, number of abortions, and maternal mortality remain relatively high. Due to high pregnancy levels and the stigma associated with termination of pregnancy, more women turn to unsafe and illegal abortions despite the risks involved. Risky sexual behavior pose a serious risk of contracting HIV/AIDS. The main objective of this study is to map evidence on factors influencing contraceptive use and sexual behavior in South Africa. ⋯ We anticipate finding a considerable number of published articles presenting evidence on contraceptive use and sexual health behavior in South Africa. Findings of this scoping review will be disseminated electronically, in print, and through peer presentation, conferences, and congresses.

Case Reports
Delayed recovery of pediatric sudden sensorineural hearing loss treated with acupuncture: A case report.
The rate of spontaneous recovery of sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) has been reported to be as high as 32% to 65%. Although the majority of spontaneous recoveries occur within 2 weeks, treatment of refractory SSNHL failing conventional therapy is difficult. In particular, it is more difficult to treat children-who have a worse prognosis than adults-with SSNHL refractory to conventional therapy. No studies reported delayed recovery of pediatric SSNHL later than 3 months after onset, or delayed recovery treated with acupuncture. ⋯ Acupuncture may be a therapeutic option for individuals who do not experience improvement after the use of steroids or miss early treatment.

Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is characterised by interface hepatitis. However, some acute cases exhibit atypical centrilobular necrosis with mild portal inflammation. Detailed histological and ultrastructural analyses of acute AIH are limited. ⋯ An important marker of acute AIH may be the presence of activated DCs in the hepatic sinusoids and central vein.

Report a case of bilateral multiple retinal hamartomas (RAHs) in a patient with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) and introduced a new method (subthreshold micropulse laser photocoagulation) for the treatment of RAHs. ⋯ About 577 nm photocoagulation for the peripheral RAHs in combination with subthreshold micropulse laser photocoagulation for RAHs in the macular zone is a good option for multiple RAHs in patients with TSC.
