Low preoperative fibrinogen level is risk factor for neurological complications in acute aortic dissection.
Aortic arch surgery in patients with acute aortic dissection is frequently complicated by neurological complications and coagulopathy. However, the relationship between the coagulation system and neurological complications in patients with acute aortic dissection has not been clarified. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the coagulation system and neurological complications in patients with acute aortic dissection. ⋯ Multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed serum creatinine level (OR, 1.049; 95% CI, 1.011-1.089; P = .01), white blood cell counts (OR, 1.581; 95% CI, 1.216-2.057; P = .001) and fibrinogen concentration upon admission (OR, 0.189; 95% CI, 0.060-0.596; P = .004) as predictors of neurological complications. However, we found that there was no association between the coagulation system and in-hospital mortality. Low preoperative fibrinogen level is the preferred marker for predicting clinical neurological complications in patients with acute type A aortic dissection treated with surgical repair.

Association of Foxp3 promoter polymorphisms with susceptibility to endometrial cancer in the Chinese Han women.
To evaluate the association between Foxp3 gene polymorphisms (rs3761548 and rs5902434) and susceptibility to endometrial cancer (EC), we report a hospital case-control study involving 602 women, consisting of 269 patients with EC and 333 healthy controls. Genotyping was performed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. ⋯ Moreover, ATT/ATT genotype (rs5902434) was conferred a lower risk of EC in the recessive model (adjusted OR 0.58, 95% CI: 0.35-0.96, P = .031). From the data generated, we conclude that Foxp3 promoter polymorphisms are associated with susceptibility to EC in Chinese Han women.

This study is to investigate whether the known mutations P. R1205H and P. A502V were pathogenic factors of Parkinson disease (PD) in Xinjiang Uygur and Han people. ⋯ Ala502Val and P. Arg1205H may not be pathogenic mutations to PD in Xinjiang Uygur and Han people. The polymorphism of the rs200221361 may have no association with the occurrence of PD in Uygur and Han people of Xinjiang.

Interest in the anesthetic use of xenon, a noble gas, has waxed and waned for decades, and the clinical effects of xenon are still debated. We performed a meta-analysis to compare the clinical efficacy of xenon with that of propofol. ⋯ In this meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials, we found that xenon treatment resulted in a higher MAP, a lower HR, and a smaller BIS index than treatment with propofol.

Patient adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) is critical for HIV treatment success. Monitoring rates of adherence in public HIV outpatient care facilities can improve outcomes in Brazil where ART is universally available. ⋯ Overall, there was a high proportion of all indicators IPN and timing was the main component associated with low adherence. Although these indicators may not necessarily indicate individual nonadherence, they represent a worrisome scenario in the public Brazilian HIV care facilities. On a routine basis, these facilities can identify gaps in providing counseling and ART orientation to their clientele and develop innovative strategies to prevent nonadherence.
