Intrathecal dexmedetomidine can decrease the 95% effective dose of bupivacaine in spinal anesthesia for cesarean section: A prospective, double-blinded, randomized study.
Dexmedetomidine (Dex), as an adjuvant, has been reported to prolong the duration of spinal analgesia when adding to local anesthetic. We hypothesized that Dex could enhance the efficiency of intrathecal bupivacaine for spinal anesthesia in cesarean section. The aim of his study is to test our hypothesis that 5 μg Dex could enhance the efficiency of intrathecal bupivacaine and reduce the dose requirement of spinal bupivacaine for patients undergoing cesarean section. ⋯ Intrathecal 5 μg Dex enhances the efficacy of spinal bupivacaine by 24% in patients undergoing cesarean section with spinal anesthesia. No additional side effect was observed by adding spinal Dex.

Ancient medical practitioners used to encourage dietary supplements and herbal medicine for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Ginger (Zingiber officinale), is a nontoxic spice with negligible side effects, and is considered safe by the food and drug administration. In this analysis, we aimed to systematically compare fasting blood sugar (FBS) and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) at baseline versus at follow-up in T2DM patients who consumed and who did not consume ginger. ⋯ This analysis involving patients with T2DM showed no significant difference in FBS with ginger consumption. However, dietary ginger significantly improved HbA1c from baseline to follow-up showing that this natural medicine might have an impact on glucose control over a longer period of time in patients with T2DM.

The optimal bolus dose of sufentanil for satisfactory laryngeal mask airway (LMA) insertion conditions in chinese pediatric patients: A prospective double-blind randomized controlled trial (CONSORT).
This study aimed to estimate the optimal dose of sufentanil, coadministered with 2.5 mg/kg propofol, for satisfactory laryngeal mask airway (LMA) insertion conditions in Chinese children and to determine the optimal bolus dose. ⋯ In combination with propofol for anesthesia induction in Chinese children, sufentanil 0.2 μg/kg could prevent patients from dramatic hemodynamic change, providing satisfactory LMA insertion conditions.

Is tamsulosin effective for the passage of symptomatic ureteral stones: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Some trials have stated that there is no benefit to tamsulosin administration for clearing ureteral stones, which is contrary to previous studies. To confirm the efficacy of tamsulosin for treating symptomatic ureteral stones, we performed this review. ⋯ Tamsulosin should be strongly recommended for patients with ureteral stones to increase treatment efficacy. The side effects were not significantly different between the tamsulosin and control treatments.

The diagnostic value of circulating tumor cells for lung cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) have become a potential diagnostic tumor marker and have the potential for wide clinical applications. However, the diagnostic parameters vary among previous studies. A systematic review of the literature and meta-analysis were conducted to assess the diagnostic value of CTCs for lung cancer. ⋯ The results of this meta-analysis suggest that CTCs are associated with a high diagnostic value for lung cancer. These findings require large-scale prospective studies to verify and evaluate the diagnostic value in the future.
