Observational Study
Risk of Parkinson disease in Sjögren syndrome administered ineffective immunosuppressant therapies: A nationwide population-based study.
To determine the incidence and risk of Parkinson disease (PD) in patients with Sjögren syndrome (SS) according to a nationwide population-based database. In total, 12,640 patients in the SS cohort and 50,560 in the non-SS cohort were enrolled from Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database from 2000 to 2010. We used the Cox multivariable proportional hazards model to determine the risk factors for PD in the SS cohort. ⋯ The aHR of PD significantly increased when the follow-up period exceeded 9 years (aHR, 1.93). We determined an increased risk of PD in patients with SS. Further investigation is warranted to determine the possible underlying mechanisms and the potential role of non-hydroxychloroquine immunosuppressants in ameliorating PD.

This is an immunohistologic study of gene expression between patients and controls. This study aims to evaluate expression of the catalase gene in hypertrophied ligamentum flavum (LF) specimens obtained from patients with lumbar spinal canal stenosis (LSCS).LSCS is one of the most common spinal disorders. It is well known that LF hypertrophy plays an important role in the onset of LSCS. Although degenerative changes, aging, and mechanical stress are all thought to contribute to hypertrophy and fibrosis of the LF, the precise pathogenesis of LF hypertrophy remains unknown. Previous genetic studies have tried to determine the mechanism of LF hypertrophy. However, the association between catalase gene expression and LF hypertrophy has not yet been explored. ⋯ Our findings suggest that decreased expression of catalase is associated with LF hypertrophy in patients with LSCS.

The aim of this analysis is to investigate the level of T cell subsets in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and the effect of low-dose interleukin 2 (IL-2). This is a retrospective cohort study, we collected basic information, inflammatory markers, BASDAI scores, and T lymphocyte subsets of peripheral blood in patients with AS, baseline analysis, correlation analysis and comparative analysis before and after treatment were performed. Data from 73 patients (of these, 36 patients were treated with IL-2) and 85 the health were included. ⋯ Increase in ratio of Th17/CD4 Treg involved in the occurrence of AS. At the same time, low-dose IL-2 could decrease the ratio of Th17/CD4 Treg in short time, low-dose IL-2 can be used to treat autoimmune diseases to avoid adverse reactions caused by immunosuppressants. Further clinical study is needed on the efficacy of IL-2.

Liuwei Dihuang Decoction for primary osteoporosis: A protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Primary osteoporosis (POP) is one kind of global disease, as a serious threat to human health. Liuwei Dihuang Decoction (LWDHD) has been recommended to treat osteoporosis alone or combined with medicine in China; however, its efficacy is unclear. The object of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of LWDHD in the management of POP. ⋯ PROSPERO CRD 4201926066.

Meta Analysis Comparative Study
Comparative efficacy and safety of bridging strategies with direct mechanical thrombectomy in large vessel occlusion: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Whether bridging strategies[intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) + mechanical thrombectomy (MT)] are superior to mechanical thrombectomy alone for large vessel occlusion(LVO) is still uncertain. A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to investigate and evaluate comparative efficacy and safety of bridging strategies vs direct MT in patients with LVO. ⋯ The findings of our meta-analysis confirmed that bridging strategies improved functional outcomes, successful recanalization rate and reduced mortality rates. Moreover, the incidence of sICH showed no differences between the bridging strategies and MT alone treatments. However, the conduct of high-quality randomized clinical trials that directly compare both strategies is warranted.
