To develop clinical nomograms for prediction of overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) in patients with stage IV tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC) after surgery based on the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program database. We collected data of resected stage IV TSCC patients from the SEER database, and divided them into the training set and validation set by 7:3 randomly. Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox regression analysis were adopted to distinguish independent risk factors for OS and CSS. ⋯ As for CSS, corrected C-indices were 0.708 in the training set and 0.663 in the validation set. The established nomograms in this study exhibited good accuracy and effectiveness to predict 3-year and 5-year probabilities of OS and CSS in resected stage IV TSCC patients. They are useful tools to evaluate survival outcomes and helped choose appropriate treatment strategies.

Fluoxetine has been reported to treat anorexia nervosa (AN) caused by chemotherapy in patients with cholangiocarcinoma effectively. However, no study systematically investigated its efficacy and safety. Thus, this study will systematically assess its efficacy and safety for AN caused by chemotherapy in patients with cholangiocarcinoma. ⋯ PROSPERO CRD42019131583.

The management of complete obstruction of anastomosis following colorectal surgery is challenging. Some modified minimally invasive methods have been reported to be successfully implemented in some cases. In this case report, we present a case to share our experience. ⋯ Endoscopic small incision with a needle knife along with balloon dilation could be an alternative method for patients with complete obstruction of anastomosis after colorectal resection. But this procedure should be performed with great caution in selected patients and performed only by highly experienced endoscopists.

Suppression and of cancer metastasis is one of the most important issues in cancer care. Considering the typical clinical course of metastases, cancer cells might prefer certain environments or conditions. However, favorable environments for cancer metastasis have not been clearly identified. We had previously described a case of dual, yet separate, pancreatic and colon cancer, in which the metastatic pancreatic cancer was localized at the invasive portion of the colon cancer. We hypothesized that metastatic pancreatic cancer took over the colon cancer microenvironment. ⋯ This case may thus provide evidence to strengthen our hypothesis that pancreatic cancer prefers to metastasize to other independent cancer lesions, overtaking the cancer microenvironment constructed by other independent cancers. The lung cancer microenvironment, rich in myofibroblasts and/or cancer-associated fibroblasts, might be suitable for pancreatic carcinoma metastasis. In addition, we propose the hypothesis that compared with normal tissues, noncancerous fibrotic lesions are preferable destinations for cancer metastasis. Furthermore, metastasis of pancreatic carcinoma to lung cancer and fibrotic tissues might be more common, although such cases have not been previously reported.

The use of traditional American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging alone has limitations in predicting patient survival with nodular melanoma (NM). We aimed to establish a comprehensive prognostic nomogram and compare its prognostic value with the AJCC staging system. A nomogram was constructed to predict the 3-year and 5-year survival rates of NM patients by Cox regression. ⋯ The prognostic value of the nomogram is better than that of the AJCC staging system alone. In addition, we found that LND is an important risk factor for the survival of NM patients. The nomogram developed in this study may be a valuable tool for clinical practice when advising patients about their survival risk over the next 3 to 5 years.
