Infracardiac total anomalous pulmonary venous return in a patient with Williams syndrome: A case report.
Total anomalous pulmonary venous return (TAPVR) is a rare condition, accounting for 1% of all congenital heart diseases, and an atypical cardiovascular abnormality in Williams syndrome (WS). Here, we report a rare case of WS combined with infracardiac TAPVR. ⋯ This case demonstrates that patients with WS can have associated infracardiac TAPVR. The postoperative growth patterns and changes in the diameters of the aorta and pulmonary arteries were related closely to our early diagnosis of TAPVR associated with WS.

Hypothalamic sydrome as an initial presentation of Wernicke encephalopathy: A case report.
Wernicke encephalopathy (WE) is a syndrome characterized by an acute or subacute onset of ataxia, ophthalmoplegia, and mental status changes. To our knowledge, hypothalamic syndrome is rare in WE. ⋯ When patients develop unexplained hypothalamic syndrome, we should think of the possibility of WE. The concomitant presence of hyponatremia, hypotension, anorexia, and apathy in WE is rare. Therefore, this case is reported here for discussion.

Sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease presenting as dizziness and cognitive decline: A case report.
Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is an infrequent and rapidly fatal neurodegenerative disease without effective cure. Common presentations of CJD include rapidly progressive cognitive decline, behavioral changes, cerebellar dysfunction, and visual disturbances. Since clinicians may see only very few cases during their professional career, it is important to be familiar with the clinical presentation and progression, and allow for quick diagnosis. ⋯ Clinicians should attach importance to sCJD, which is significant for the prevention of transmission and treatment.

Encephalitis caused by Listeria monocytogenes in a healthy adult male in China: A case report.
Listeria monocytogenes rarely affects immunocompetent adults, and only a few cases of encephalitis caused by L monocytogenes in humans have been reported in China. ⋯ We report a rare case of L monocytogenes encephalitis in a previously healthy immunocompetent adult in China. The patient's CT scans showed increasing brain swelling and hydrocephalus, and the patient's condition progressively deteriorated.

Case report: right-sided native endocarditis presenting with multiple abscess formations [care compliant].
Right-sided native endocarditis is a difficult case with fewer cardiac symptoms and fewer classic signs of cutaneous vascular lesions compared with left-sided endocarditis. ⋯ This case arose as a sequela of staphylococcal endocarditis associated with persistent bacteremia and immunological dysregulation. The diagnosis of right-sided endocarditis is easily missing, multidisciplinary approach should be triggered as soon as possible, which might lead to a better outcome. Right-sided IE is still an important public health issue in southern Taiwan.
