Pyogenic osteomyelitis of the spine usually occurs in patients over 55 years old with acute osteomyelitis. Surgical treatment and fixation can relieve pain, enhance spinal balance and nerve function, so that patients can walk as soon as possible. Different outcomes of surgical methods include anterior minimally invasive oblique retroperitoneal approach (ORA) and posterior transpedicular approach (PTA). While, there is no consensus on the best treatment for PVO. The goal of the protocol is to compare the clinical consequences between PTA and ORA for treating PVO. ⋯ This protocol may offer a reliable basis for the effectiveness of the two approaches in the treatment of PVO.

Surgical treatment of spinal hepatocellular carcinoma metastasis after Liver transplantation (LT) is a clinical challenge. We herein report the clinical outcomes of the first case of a patient with T11 from hepatocellular carcinoma metastasis after systemic chemotherapy following LT combined with mesenteric resection and colectomy, who was successfully treated with En Bloc spondylectomy. ⋯ En Bloc spondylectomy may be a therapeutic choice for patients with progression after systemic chemotherapy for the solitary spinal metastases after LT combined with mesenteric resection and colectomy, which has a survival benefit without local recurrence at the surgical site. immunosuppressant after LT may result in worse immune function, which leads to HCC more prone to recurrence and bone metastasis.

Many patients with chronic pancreatitis (CP) undergo a step-up approach with interventional procedures as first-line treatment and resection reserved for later stages. The aim of this study was to identify predictive factors for a significant clinical improvement (SCI) after surgical treatment. All patients operated for CP between September 2012 and June 2017 at our center was retrospectively reviewed. ⋯ In total, 96.2% of the patients had a complete or major postoperative relief with a mean pain intensity reduction from 8.1 to 1.9 on the visual analogue scale. The results support that surgical resection for CP should be considered at early stages. Resection can effectively reduce postoperative pain intensity and improve long-term success.

Efficacy of DA-5204 (Stillen 2X) for patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot study.
Proton pump inhibitor (PPI) alone is not satisfactory for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Therefore, we investigated the efficacy of DA-5204 (Stillen 2X, 90 mg of Artemisia asiatica 95% ethanol extract per tablet) and PPI combination therapy on GERD in comparison to PPI alone. ⋯ Combined therapy with PPI and DA-5204 has no additional effect on the endoscopic healing rate compared to PPI alone. However, it may be beneficial in resolving minimal change.
