Cryptococcosis caused by cryptococcus gattii: 2 case reports and literature review.
Cryptococcosis caused by Cryptococcus gattii, is a life threatening fungal infection with recently increasing prevalence. C. gattii is a species complex comprising multiple independent species. However, many biological characteristics and clinical features of cryptococcosis due to C. gattii are relatively less well defined. ⋯ Upon detailed review of all 35 cases of C. gattii infections, it was observed that C. gattii can cause debilitating illness in both immunocompetent and immunocompromised individuals. Cryptococcosis due to C. gattii is a serious systemic fungal infection, with pulmonary central nervous system tropism. Epidemiologically, C. gattii infection is not only restricted in tropical and subtropical regions, but also in other geographical settings.

Despite the rapid advances in medical technology, including endovascular interventions and medications, cerebral vasospasm (CVS) after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is still one of the major threats to the lives of patients with SAH. In East Asian countries, various types of herbal medicines have been used to treat cerebrovascular diseases, including SAH. In this review, we aim to evaluate the efficacy and safety of herbal medicines for the prevention and treatment of CVS after SAH. ⋯ Ethical approval is not required, as this study is based on a review of published research. This review will be published in a peer-reviewed journal and disseminated electronically and in print.

Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a potentially blinding eye disorder that primarily affects premature infants. Although a variety of managements are available for ROP, the efficacy is still unsatisfied. Studies have suggested that laser therapy (LT) may benefit ROP. However, no systematic review has addressed this topic. Thus, this systematic review aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of LT for ROP. ⋯ osf.io/3tmnf.

Importance of early detection of juvenile polyposis syndrome: A case report and literature review.
Juvenile polyposis syndrome (JPS) is a rare genetic gastrointestinal disorder with hidden and variable clinical features. Early detection is crucial for good prognosis. ⋯ Variable features and lack of family history probably lead to a great underestimation of potential JPS population. It is recommended to perform genetic testing by a multigene panel in individuals who have suspected symptoms of polyposis.
