This study was performed to examine the epidemiological features of maxillofacial fracture, including the incidence, causes, age and sex distribution, methods of treatment, and prognosis, in a local area. A retrospective study was performed to investigate the epidemiological characteristics of 829 patients with maxillofacial fractures treated in a hospital in northern China from August 2011 to July 2019. Sex, age, etiology, fracture site, and treatment method were obtained from the medical records. ⋯ Traffic accidents were the main cause of maxillofacial fractures, followed by falling. Open surgery with internal fixation was the leading treatment choice. Both functional and esthetic outcomes should be considered in the treatment of maxillofacial fractures.

Emphysematous prostatic abscess due to candidiasis: A case report and review of the literature.
The emphysematous prostatic abscess is a rare but potentially life-threatening clinical condition. The early diagnosis is difficult due to nonspecific symptoms. ⋯ Given the poor conservative treatment effect of emphysematous prostatic abscesses, CT or TRUS should be performed in the patients with suspected diagnosis. Early and appropriate drainage with proper antibiotic therapy is important to achieve a favorable outcome.

Preoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT) is one standard option for localized esophageal or gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) cancer patients but an optimal concurrent chemotherapy combination is not established. ⋯ At our high-volume center, the outcome of 412 TMT esophageal cancer patients was excellent. Taxane-based chemotherapy produces nonsignificant favorable trend.

The global prevalence of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is estimated to be as high as 15%, and it is estimated that IBS has a prevalence of approximately 10% to 20% in Western countries. Some trials showed mesalazine (5-aminosalicylic acid [5-ASA]) might be effective for IBS, but the results still need to be confirmed. Hence, this meta-analysis is designed to assess the efficacy and safety of mesalazine for IBS in adults and children. ⋯ The meta-analysis has been prospectively registered in PROSPERO (CRD42019147860).

Shenmai injection (SMI) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine patent prescription consisting of extractions from ophiopogonis radix and ginseng radix rubra. Clinical studies showed that SMI combined with conventional medicine treatment (CMT) can enhance the therapeutic efficacy for dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). However, there is still a lack of comprehensive and systematic evidence, which urgently requires us to verify its therapeutic efficacy. Hence, we provide a protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis. ⋯ CRD42019146369.
