Single-incision approach for bilateral inguinal hernia repair in children: A retrospective study.
To introduce the use of a new surgical approach named single-incision bilateral inguinal herniorrhaphy (SBIH) in pediatric surgical population. This was a STROBE-compliant retrospective cohort study using data from 101 patients who had undergone bilateral inguinal herniorrhaphy in our institution. Children with bilateral inguinal hernias without contraindications for surgery, ranging in age from 6 months to 12 years, were included. ⋯ No ascending testis, testicular atrophy, and hydrocele occurred in either group. According to the questionnaire, both procedures had equally high levels of satisfaction for cosmetic results (P = .7531). Initial results show that SBIH for pediatric patients, regardless of gender, is a safe and feasible procedure compared with LBIH with an equally low recurrence rate, few complication, and satisfactory cosmetic outcomes.

Acute conjunctivitis is inflammation of conjunctiva of less than 3 to 4 weeks duration, characterized by cellular infiltration and exudation. It may also result into corneal, lid or orbital involvement which may lead to various complications. A hospital based prospective study was conducted in Assam Medical College and Hospital with 110 culture proven acute bacterial conjunctivitis cases. ⋯ All acute bacterial conjunctivitis cases don't require antibiotic therapy. In case if required, periodical culture and sensitivity may guide initial pre-emptive antibiotic therapy. Further choice of antibiotic should be govern by culture and sensitivity status.

The outcome of human mosaic aneuploid blastocysts after intrauterine transfer: A retrospective study.
To explore whether mosaic/aneuploid embryos can be transferred when there is no normal embryo available for transplant. The clinical pregnancy outcomes and amniocentesis outcomes of transplanted mosaic embryos during 28 preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) cycles were retrospectively analyzed. Chromosomes of 4 donated mosaic blastocysts were comprehensively screened by next-generation sequencing. ⋯ Five women had full-term pregnancies and gave birth to 5 healthy babies. Three of the 4 donated mosaic blastocysts had normal trophectoderm and inner cell mass, but the other 1 had abnormal embryonic cell mass. When no normal transplantable embryo is available in the PGT cycles, but the underlying risk must be fully informed.

The objective of this study was to examine the association between county-level socioeconomic factors and brand-name drug prescription drug patterns among medical specialties with overall high brand-name outpatient prescription use. This cross-sectional study used data from 2 publicly available datasets. The 2015 Medicare Part D PUF data quantifies the prescription rates at the county-level and data from the US Census Bureau provides information on socioeconomic status at the county-level. ⋯ As the presence of individuals with an income ≥$100,000 increased in a given county, the likelihood of receiving a brand-name prescription claim increased. A county-level association exists involving socioeconomic factors and outpatient brand-name drug prescription patterns. Future interventions should consider these factors in order to reduce percentage of brand-name drugs filled and decrease health care expenditures.

Numerous reports in the media have suggested that children could be hurt due to their clothing, yet there are few medical reports that discussed children's clothing-related injuries. This study therefore, aimed to describe the epidemiological characteristics of media-reported injury cases related to children's clothing in Mainland of China. ⋯ Our findings suggest that future unintentional injuries could be prevented by implementing 2 major initiatives: improving the promotion of the safety of children clothing design in China and educating consumers on the potential risk associated with children's clothing.
