The objective of this paper is to demonstrate, considering the experiences from Chinese people, if slow transit constipation (STC) can be accurately diagnosed, choosing patients qualifying for surgery, subtotal colectomy with antiperistaltic cecosigmoidal anastomosis (STC-Anti-CSA) may come with more acceptable short and long-term outcomes. A retrospective study was performed at a department of colorectal and anal surgery. A cohort of 29 patients were coming with up to 5 years' follow-up care, who were in a diverse range of age, BMI, laxative medicine histories, including both males and females. ⋯ However, most patients were satisfied with their bowel patterns. STC-Anti-CSA can receive acceptable postoperative outcomes as long as the patients can be accurately diagnosed and classified as severe STC. Among the surgical procedures for STC, this procedure may be another suitable option, especially for Chinese people.

Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria syndrome (HGPS) is a rare lethal premature and accelerated aging disease caused by mutations in the lamin A/C gene. Nevertheless, the mechanisms of cellular damage, senescence, and accelerated aging in HGPS are not fully understood. Therefore, we aimed to screen potential key genes, pathways, and therapeutic agents of HGPS by using bioinformatics methods in this study. ⋯ This study identified key genes, signal pathways and therapeutic agents, which might help us improve our understanding of the mechanisms of HGPS and identify some new therapeutic agents for HGPS.

Ruling out distant metastases, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)treatment depends on the results of mediastinal node staging (N staging). Several diagnostic methods play central roles in mediastinal N staging. This study is intended to evaluate the existing diagnostic methods and report quality, and to search for the best method for staging mediastinal lymph nodes. ⋯ CRD42019145667.

Trends in late and advanced HIV diagnoses among migrants in Australia; implications for progress on Fast-Track targets: A retrospective observational study.
Achieving the Joint United Nations Program on human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/AIDS Fast-Track targets requires additional strategies for mobile populations. We examined trends and socio-demographics of migrants (overseas-born) and Australian-born individuals presenting with late and advanced HIV diagnoses between 2008 and 2017 to help inform public health approaches for HIV testing coverage and linkage to care and treatment. We conducted a retrospective population-level observational study of individuals diagnosed with HIV in Australia and reported to the National HIV Registry. ⋯ Late HIV diagnosis remains a significant public health concern in Australia. Small declines in late diagnosis among some migrant categories are offset by increases among male-to-male exposures. Reaching the Fast-Track targets in Australia will require targeted testing and linkage to care strategies for all migrant populations, especially men who have sex with men.

The circ_VCAN with radioresistance contributes to the carcinogenesis of glioma by regulating microRNA-1183.
Circular RNAs (circRNAs), a widespread type of noncoding RNA, are produced by reverse splicing with a circular loop structure. Circ_VCAN (hsa_circ_0073237) acts as a novel circRNA, although its roles in the progression and radioresistance of glioma remain unknown. Expressions of circ_VCAN and microRNA-1183 (miR-1183) were analyzed by quantitative real-time PCR, and the functions of circ_VCAN and irradiate in glioma cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and invasion were assessed using cell counting kit-8, flow cytometry, Wound healing, and Transwell assays. ⋯ In addition, luciferase reporter assays revealed that circ_VCAN might function as a sponge for miR-1183. Finally, overexpression of circ_VCAN expedited carcinogenesis and reduced glioma radiosensitivity by regulating miR-1183. Circ_VCAN serves as a potential oncogene of glioma by regulating miR-1183, and plays an essential role in the radioresistance of glioma.
