Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men and women. The presence of systemic disease, with metastatic spread to distant sites such as the liver, considerably reduces the survival rate in CRC. Cancer stem cells contribute to the metastatic potential of CRC. However, the mechanism underlying metastasis in CRC remains unclear. Thus, this study aimed to examine the expression of microRNAs (miRNAs) in CRC stem cells in cases of liver metastases and assess their correlation with clinicopathological features. ⋯ High expression of miR-17 may contribute to liver metastasis in CRC. Therefore, an in-depth understanding of its downstream pathways could help in elucidating the mechanisms underlying liver metastases in CRC. However, additional studies are warranted to validate these findings.

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is one of the most common chronic muscular diseases in old people. In recent years, people are more and more interested in the use of Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) in the treatment of KOA, such as kidney-tonifying and blood-activating medicinal herbs (KTBAMs) in the treatment of KOA. Many studies have confirmed that KTBAMs are effective in the treatment of KOA. However, it is still unknown whether KTBAMs and NSAIDs are more effective in the treatment of KOA. Therefore, we evaluated the efficacy and safety of KTBAMs and NSAIDs in the treatment of KOA. ⋯ This proposed systematic review will provide up-to-date evidence to assess the effect of KTBAMs in the treatment for patients with KOA. The iliac bone graft procedure is one of the treatment options for individuals with extremely resorbed alveolar bones. An autogenous block bone graft can allow the use of an implant-supported fixed dental prosthesis, rather than conventional removable dentures, by completely edentulous patients. However, the iliac bone graft technique is an invasive procedure and should be carefully selected based on its long-term clinical results. This case report describes 11-year long-term outcomes for implant-supported complete denture on the grafted iliac bone. ⋯ Iliac bone graft can be chosen as a predictable treatment option that allows patients with extremely atrophic maxilla to use a fixed dental prosthesis instead of a removable denture.

Spermatogenesis associated serine rich 2 (SPATS2) has been reported to be dysregulated in few types of cancer; however, no reports have investigated SPATS2 in liver cancer. The aim of the present study was to investigate SPATS2 expression in liver cancer and to analyze its association with the prognosis of liver cancer patients. We examined the differential expression of SPATS2 in liver cancer by exploring The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. ⋯ Cox regression analysis showed that high SPATS2 expression might be an independent risk factor for liver cancer (OS, HR = 2.41, P = .000; RFS, HR = 1.90, P < .001). GSEA analysis identified 3 signaling pathways (Mitotic spindle, G2 M checkpoint, E2F targets) that were enriched in the presence of high SPATS2 expression. SPATS2 expression could be a novel diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in liver cancer.

Upper extremity vein thrombosis (UE-VT) are more and more frequent pathologies and yet little studied. The aim is to describe the clinical and ultrasound features, UE-VT-related diseases, and the prevalence of pulmonary embolism (PE) and associated deaths. All UE-VT patients diagnosed by Doppler-ultrasound in Nantes University Hospital, from January 2015 to December 2017, were included retrospectively. ⋯ The occurrence of PE is 4% and the death rate is 10.2%, mainly related to the severe comorbidities of patients with UE-VT. UE-VT occurs in particular clinical contexts (hematological malignancies, solid cancers, systemic infections) and in the majority of endovascular devices (86.2%). The occurrence of PE is low.
