Upper extremity vein thrombosis (UE-VT) are more and more frequent pathologies and yet little studied. The aim is to describe the clinical and ultrasound features, UE-VT-related diseases, and the prevalence of pulmonary embolism (PE) and associated deaths. All UE-VT patients diagnosed by Doppler-ultrasound in Nantes University Hospital, from January 2015 to December 2017, were included retrospectively. ⋯ The occurrence of PE is 4% and the death rate is 10.2%, mainly related to the severe comorbidities of patients with UE-VT. UE-VT occurs in particular clinical contexts (hematological malignancies, solid cancers, systemic infections) and in the majority of endovascular devices (86.2%). The occurrence of PE is low.

β2-microglobulin is an independent indicator of acute kidney injury and outcomes in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage.
Acute kidney injury (AKI), a serious complication in critically ill patients, is associated with poor clinical outcomes. We explored the hypothesis that β2-microglobulin (β2-MG) is an independent indicator of AKI development and outcomes in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) in the neurosurgical intensive care unit (NICU). ⋯ The overall AKI incidence, in hospital, was 35.2%; patients were diagnosed with stage 1 (22.1%), 2 (5.7%), and 3 (7.4%) AKI. β2-MG levels predicted AKI with an area under the curve of 0.712 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.652-0.772) and a cut-off of 2026.85 μg/L (sensitivity, 57.5%; specificity, 79.4%). Compared with the group having lower β2-MG values, the group with higher values (β2-MG >2123.50 μg/L) had significantly higher risks of AKI (odds ratio, 2.606; 95% CI, 1.315-5.166), in-hospital mortality (hazard ratio [HR], 2.548; 95% CI, 1.318-4.924), and 1-year mortality (HR, 3.161; 95% CI, 1.781-5.611) in adjusted analyses.β2-MG levels predict AKI development and outcomes in patients with ICH in the NICU.

The iliac bone graft procedure is one of the treatment options for individuals with extremely resorbed alveolar bones. An autogenous block bone graft can allow the use of an implant-supported fixed dental prosthesis, rather than conventional removable dentures, by completely edentulous patients. However, the iliac bone graft technique is an invasive procedure and should be carefully selected based on its long-term clinical results. This case report describes 11-year long-term outcomes for implant-supported complete denture on the grafted iliac bone. ⋯ Iliac bone graft can be chosen as a predictable treatment option that allows patients with extremely atrophic maxilla to use a fixed dental prosthesis instead of a removable denture.

Cricothyroidotomy is the final strategy in the "cannot intubate, cannot oxygenate" scenario, but half of needle cricothyroidotomy attempts result in failure. The most frequent complication in needle cricothyroidotomy is posterior tracheal wall injury. We hypothesized that needle length is related to posterior wall injury and compared needle cricothyroidotomy with a commercial kit to a modified shorter needle to evaluate success and posterior wall injury rates. ⋯ During needle cricothyroidotomy, force is needed for the needle to penetrate the cricothyroid ligament. The advancing needle sometimes cannot be stopped after penetrating the cricothyroid ligament. These data suggest that needle length is associated with posterior wall injury.

The outcome of human mosaic aneuploid blastocysts after intrauterine transfer: A retrospective study.
To explore whether mosaic/aneuploid embryos can be transferred when there is no normal embryo available for transplant. The clinical pregnancy outcomes and amniocentesis outcomes of transplanted mosaic embryos during 28 preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) cycles were retrospectively analyzed. Chromosomes of 4 donated mosaic blastocysts were comprehensively screened by next-generation sequencing. ⋯ Five women had full-term pregnancies and gave birth to 5 healthy babies. Three of the 4 donated mosaic blastocysts had normal trophectoderm and inner cell mass, but the other 1 had abnormal embryonic cell mass. When no normal transplantable embryo is available in the PGT cycles, but the underlying risk must be fully informed.
