The disadvantage of morning blood pressure management in hypertensive patients.
To investigate whether the control of morning blood pressure (MBP) reflects the control of blood pressure (BP) in other periods (daytime, nighttime and 24-hour) and to assess whether morning BP displays a closer association with subclinical target organ damage (TOD) than the BP measured in other periods. One thousand one hundred forty patients with primary hypertension who completed subclinical TOD detection and 24-hour ambulatory BP monitoring were included in the analysis. Pearson correlation analysis, Kappa consistency test, multiple linear regression analysis, and area under the receiver operating curve were used to analyze the data. ⋯ Morning BP appeared to exhibit less discriminatory power than nighttime BP, particularly with respect to the urinary albumin to creatinine ratio. The use of morning BP for monitoring during hypertension management may not be enough. Masked uncontrolled nocturnal hypertension should be screened when morning BP is controlled.

To characterize the fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (fALFF) in drug-naïve first-episode female patients with anorexia nervosa (AN) using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI). Whole brain rs-fMRI data were collected from 7 drug-naïve first-episode female patients with DSM-5 AN and 14 age-matched healthy female controls. fALFF values were calculated and compared between the two groups using a two-sample t test. Correlation analysis between the fALFF values in the entire brain and body mass index (BMI) was performed. ⋯ Moreover, low BMI was significantly associated with decreased fALFF in the left inferior frontal gyrus but increased fALFF in the left calcarine. In particular, the z-standardized fALFF (zfALFF) value of the left rectus was positive associated with BMI. Our findings suggest that spontaneous brain activity in the frontal region, hippocampus and rectus, characterized by fALFF values, was altered in drug-naïve, first-episode female patients with AN.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is encountered rarely in pregnancy. Management of maternal AF is challenging as it poses a threat to both maternal and fetal well-being. ⋯ We are reporting this case because of the rarity of the condition and successful use of DCCV for treating maternal AF. High-sensitive cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) level is a useful laboratory indicator to gauge the severity of AF in pregnancy. We emphasize to make the arrangements for EFHR monitoring and potential cesarean delivery and advocate cautious use of thromboprophylaxis while planning for electrical cardioversion (ECV) for maternal AF.

Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria syndrome (HGPS) is a rare lethal premature and accelerated aging disease caused by mutations in the lamin A/C gene. Nevertheless, the mechanisms of cellular damage, senescence, and accelerated aging in HGPS are not fully understood. Therefore, we aimed to screen potential key genes, pathways, and therapeutic agents of HGPS by using bioinformatics methods in this study. ⋯ This study identified key genes, signal pathways and therapeutic agents, which might help us improve our understanding of the mechanisms of HGPS and identify some new therapeutic agents for HGPS.

Percutaneous biopsy in breast cancer has been associated with an increased risk of malignant cell seeding. However, the importance of these observations remains obscure due to lack of corroborating evidence from clinical studies. We determined whether method of biopsy is associated with breast cancer survival. ⋯ Following multivariable analysis, excision biopsy was consistently associated with lower risk of mortality compared to FNAC in women receiving adjuvant radiotherapy (adjusted hazard ratio: 0.81, 95%CI: 0.66-0.99), but not in those who did not receive adjuvant radiotherapy (adjusted hazard ratio: 0.87, 95%CI: 0.65-1.17). While the risk of mortality was not different between patients undergoing FNAC and CNB when radiotherapy is administered, in the absence of radiotherapy, CNB was associated with higher risk of mortality than FNAC (adjusted hazard ratio: 1.57, 95%CI: 1.16-2.12). Given that our results contradict with findings of previous clinical studies assessing the prognostic impact of method of biopsy in women with breast cancer, further studies are warranted.
