The incidence of invasive fungal infections (IFIs) has recently increased, and early and accurate diagnosis of IFIs is important for the rational selection of antifungal drugs with high efficacy. We developed a method for rapid and accurate clinical diagnosis of IFIs and provide a reference for personalized drug treatment. We designed and screened fungal internal transcribed spacer regions with universal primers and designed 8 TaqMan detection probes to establish a multi-channel real-time fluorescent polymerase chain reaction (PCR) melting curve analysis (MCA) method. ⋯ The multi-channel real-time fluorescence PCR melting curve analysis displayed high sensitivity and specificity in detecting various clinically invasive fungi. Furthermore, it simultaneously detected the genera Candida, Cryptococcus, and Aspergillus and identified Candida at the species level. Our method can facilitate early and accurate clinical diagnosis and personalized medication regimens.

The circ_VCAN with radioresistance contributes to the carcinogenesis of glioma by regulating microRNA-1183.
Circular RNAs (circRNAs), a widespread type of noncoding RNA, are produced by reverse splicing with a circular loop structure. Circ_VCAN (hsa_circ_0073237) acts as a novel circRNA, although its roles in the progression and radioresistance of glioma remain unknown. Expressions of circ_VCAN and microRNA-1183 (miR-1183) were analyzed by quantitative real-time PCR, and the functions of circ_VCAN and irradiate in glioma cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and invasion were assessed using cell counting kit-8, flow cytometry, Wound healing, and Transwell assays. ⋯ In addition, luciferase reporter assays revealed that circ_VCAN might function as a sponge for miR-1183. Finally, overexpression of circ_VCAN expedited carcinogenesis and reduced glioma radiosensitivity by regulating miR-1183. Circ_VCAN serves as a potential oncogene of glioma by regulating miR-1183, and plays an essential role in the radioresistance of glioma.

Comparison of sugammadex and pyridostigmine bromide for reversal of rocuronium-induced neuromuscular blockade in short-term pediatric surgery: A prospective randomized study.
Sugammadex reverses rocuronium-induced neuromuscular blockade quickly and effectively. This study compared efficacy of sugammadex and pyridostigmine for reversal of rocuronium-induced light block or minimal block in children scheduled for elective entropion surgery. ⋯ Sugammadex provided more rapid reversal of rocuronium-induced neuromuscular blockade in pediatric patients undergoing surgery lasting 30 to 60 minutes than did pyridostigmine plus glycopyrrolate, with no differences in incidence of adverse events between groups.

Peritoneal metastasis (PM) is a frequent condition in patients presenting with gastric cancer, especially in younger patients with advanced tumor stages. Computer tomography (CT) is the most common noninvasive modality for preoperative staging in gastric cancer. However, the challenges of limited CT soft tissue contrast result in poor CT depiction of small peritoneal tumors. The sensitivity for detecting PM remains low. About 16% of PM are undetected. Deep learning belongs to the category of artificial intelligence and has demonstrated amazing results in medical image analyses. So far, there has been no deep learning study based on CT images for the diagnosis of PM in gastric cancer. ⋯ This study will help us know whether deep learning can improve the performance of CT in diagnosing PM in gastric cancer.

β2-microglobulin is an independent indicator of acute kidney injury and outcomes in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage.
Acute kidney injury (AKI), a serious complication in critically ill patients, is associated with poor clinical outcomes. We explored the hypothesis that β2-microglobulin (β2-MG) is an independent indicator of AKI development and outcomes in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) in the neurosurgical intensive care unit (NICU). ⋯ The overall AKI incidence, in hospital, was 35.2%; patients were diagnosed with stage 1 (22.1%), 2 (5.7%), and 3 (7.4%) AKI. β2-MG levels predicted AKI with an area under the curve of 0.712 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.652-0.772) and a cut-off of 2026.85 μg/L (sensitivity, 57.5%; specificity, 79.4%). Compared with the group having lower β2-MG values, the group with higher values (β2-MG >2123.50 μg/L) had significantly higher risks of AKI (odds ratio, 2.606; 95% CI, 1.315-5.166), in-hospital mortality (hazard ratio [HR], 2.548; 95% CI, 1.318-4.924), and 1-year mortality (HR, 3.161; 95% CI, 1.781-5.611) in adjusted analyses.β2-MG levels predict AKI development and outcomes in patients with ICH in the NICU.
