Carotenoids play essential roles in human health, such as antioxidant activity, and therefore can decrease free radicals oxidation action, preventing numerous diseases. However, these compounds have an unstable nature, turning them susceptible to adverse conditions in food processing and storage. Thereby the search for alternatives that maintain and enhance carotenoid antioxidant function, such as encapsulation, has grown. The objective of this study was to establish a systematic review protocol to evaluate the effect of different encapsulation techniques on the antioxidant action of carotenoids, evaluating which one is the best and safest, and their role in enhancing the antioxidant activity. ⋯ This review was recorded in the International Register of Prospective Systematic Reviews on January 22, 2020 (registration: CRD42020142065). Observation of tumor-associated macrophages expression in gastric cancer and its clinical pathological relationship.
The present study was designed to investigate the expression of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) in gastric cancer and its clinicopathological relationship. In addition, we also aimed to analyze the relationship between helicobacter pylori (HP) infection and TAMs in gastric cancer. The protein expression of CD16 and CD163 in 90 gastric cancer tissues and 30 margin tissues was detected by immunohistochemistry. ⋯ The density of CD163 macrophages was not correlated with the general condition of tumor patients, but with tumor size, tumor differentiation, lymphatic metastasis, depth of invasion and TNM stage. Additionally, the infection rate of HP in gastric cancer tissues was significantly higher. In summary, TAMs are associated with tumor size, degree of differentiation, depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and TNM stage, suggesting their critical role in the invasion and metastasis of gastric cancer.

A rare case of thyroglossal duct cyst extending to the sublingual space: A case report.
Thyroglossal duct cyst (TGDC) is the most common congenital anomaly of midline neck masses. A thyroglossal duct cyst is especially difficult to diagnose and is treated differently when it appears in the sublingual area. Here, we report a rare case of TGDC extending to the sublingual space. ⋯ Clinical awareness of the thyroglossal duct cyst in the sublingual area or on the oral floor area is important for an accurate diagnosis and the appropriated management.

Colchicine therapy for deep vein thrombosis in a patient with vascular-type Behçet disease: A case report.
Behçet Disease (BD) is a chronic inflammatory vasculitis with thrombogenicity and multisystem involvement. Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in the lower extremities is the most frequent manifestation of vascular involvement in BD. The causes of thrombosis vary widely and include congenital predisposition and acquired factors, but of all the thrombosis, the cause is rarely BD. Furthermore, there are few reports of treatment for thrombosis in BD. ⋯ This case shows us that we should consider BD as a differential diagnosis of DVT and that colchicine therapy is effective for inflammation-induced thrombosis in BD.

Wernicke's encephalopathy (WE) is a severe neuropsychiatric disorder, which results from a nutritional deficiency of thiamine. The occurrence of WE is rarely reported in patients with cerebral infarction, who often have complications of malnutrition. Cerebral infarction is a neurological disease, patients with cerebral infarction may show symptoms such as disturbance of consciousness and gait instability, which is difficult to differentiate from WE. Thus, early recognition and differential diagnosis of WE are important. We report a rare case of cerebral infarction patient who developed WE due to malnutrition and parenteral nutrition. ⋯ Infarction-related malnutrition may result in nutrient deficiency-related neurological complications, such as WE. Thus, it is important to pay close attention to the nutritional status of patients with cerebral infarction. In addition, early recognition and differential diagnosis of WE in patients with infarction-related malnutrition are necessary, early treatment of replete thiamine supplementation and nutrition support therapy can reduce the risk of WE and improve the prognosis.
