Multiple system atrophy (MSA) is a rare neurodegenerative disease characterized by Parkinsonism and autonomic dysfunction or cerebellar ataxia. MSA can be accompanied by stridor caused by laryngeal stenosis secondary to vocal cord dysfunction. ⋯ In summary, when MSA patients present with nocturnal stridor, it is important to evaluate the exact diagnosis and cause of stridor in patients by confirming the movement of vocal cords using DISE, as well as polysomnography.

The role of 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose-2,6-bisphosphatase-3 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.
6-phosphofructo-kinase-2/fructose diphosphatase-2 isoenzyme 3 (PFKFB3) is closely related to the growth of many types of cancer cells. Glycolysis not only provides Adenosine triphosphate for the growth of tumor cells, but also protects them from acid products, which is beneficial to the invasion and metastasis of tumors. However, PFKFB3 expression in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) has been scarcely reported. ⋯ Encouragingly, the sensitivity and specificity of PFKFB3 in the diagnosis of early ESCC (stage I and stage II) can reach 87.8% and 91.5%. In conclusion, high PFKFB3 protein and gene expression may be associated with the occurrence, development, and prognosis of ESCC. PFKFB3 could be used to help develop new therapeutic and diagnostic strategies for ESCC patients.

Currently, there exists a paucity of literature about the impact of prior knee arthroscopy on subsequent total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The purpose of this study was to compare outcomes of patients undergoing TKA after prior knee arthroscopy with a matched cohort of control subjects with primary osteoarthritis and no history of arthroscopy. ⋯ This clinical trial is expected to determine whether prior knee arthroscopy is associated with reduced functional outcomes or increased risks of revision and complications following TKA.

Misplacement of the tunnel hemodialysis catheter through the left jugular vein to the azygos vein: A case report.
The percutaneous catheterization of central veins is widely applied in patients with end-stage renal diseases as a permanent vascular access. To our knowledge, inadvertent placement of a hemodialysis catheter into the azygos vein through the left internal jugular vein is not described. ⋯ The insertion of central vein catheterization is not always in suitable position especially through left jugular vein in hemodialysis patients. DSA technology should be performed to confirm the correct position of the tip and to ensure good blood flow.

Successful treatment of a huge hepatic carcinoma with right portal vein thrombosis: A case report.
Unlike the traditional associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy, it is still controversial whether patients with portal vein thrombosis can receive benefits from liver partition. ⋯ Hepatocellular carcinoma with portal vein invasion INTERVENTION:: Radiofrequency-assisted liver partition with portal vein ligation (RALPP) OUTCOMES:: Disease-free survival: 3 months, overall survival: 7 months CONCLUSION:: Our results advocate this variation of RALPP for use in patients with huge HCC with portal vein invasion, without enough future liver remnant. Patients can receive benefits from the operation, including a shorter operation time, better recovery, and lower overall costs of the 2-stage procedure.
