Multiple evanescent white dot syndrome (MEWDS) is a self-limited multifocal chorioretinopathy that typically affects otherwise healthy young females in the second to fourth decades of life. Current understanding of the pathophysiology of MEWDS is still limited. One of the possible underlying causes is an infectious etiology. ⋯ Recurrence of MEWDS may be associated with acute systemic infection of the Herpesviridae family or virus-induced autoimmune inflammatory reaction.

Association between hypothyroidism and chronic kidney disease observed among an adult population 55 years and older.
Hypothyroidism and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are highly prevalent conditions with a potential mechanistic link. We sought to determine whether hypothyroidism is associated with CKD among a large diverse community-based cohort. A cross-sectional study was performed (January 1, 1990-December 31, 2017) within a large integrated health system. ⋯ A similar relationship was observed in analyses that defined CKD as an eGFR <60 L/min/1.73 m. Among individuals 55 years and older, we observed that those with hypothyroidism were more likely to have CKD. A stronger association was found among patients of hypothyroid status compared with attenuated-hypothyroid status suggesting a dose dependent relationship.

Attitude adjustments after global health inter-professional student team experiences.
How medical inter-professional (IP) education should be introduced to students is still a matter of research. We evaluated IP student attitudes before and after a busy "hands-on" clinical experience. During 3 separate trips, first/second year medical and physician assistant students and third/fourth year nursing students traveled to Central America to work together for 1 week in an underserved clinical setting. ⋯ Post-brigade perspectives revealed a shift in attitude from purely positive expectations to more practical aspects of teamwork, respect, and interpersonal relationships. Students believe that patient care benefits from IP collaboration. After a busy clinical experience requiring collaboration, students realized that functional teams require appropriate skills, roles, and respectful interpersonal relationships.

What should be the timing of surgical treatment of humeral shaft fractures?
This study aims to evaluate the timing of surgery in surgically treated humeral shaft fractures, to investigate the effects of surgical time on fracture recovery and complications. This was a retrospective and observational study, based on patient data who underwent surgical treatment of humeral shaft fractures from January 2012 to January 2019. There were 52 patients (19 were women and 33 men) with traumatic humeral shaft fractures who were treated consecutively at our hospital. ⋯ Surgical treatment may be the first option if patients want to return to early everyday life. Delayed surgery means delayed physical therapy and this means delayed recovery and return to everyday life. In today's technology world, it should be discussed that the initial treatment of uncomplicated humerus shaft fractures is a conservative treatment.

Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma is a rare endothelial tumor with a low-grade malignancy. This tumor can be treated with complete resection. ⋯ Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma is a rare malignant endothelial tumor in the central vein. Surgery is the treatment of choice and shows good results. We introduce and appropriate surgical method to ensure successful treatment for rare disease.
