Case Reports
Aortic injury caused by esophageal foreign body-case reports of 3 patients and literature review.
Ingestion of a foreign body can cause different degrees of damage to esophagus, and several complications are potentially life-threatening if not properly handled. The aortic injury caused by a perforating esophageal foreign body is rare but lethal. The optimal management still remains controversial. The purpose of this report is to describe our experience in the management of the aortic injury caused by esophageal foreign body ingestion. ⋯ The management of the aortic injury caused by esophageal foreign body injury is challenging. Early diagnosis and multidisciplinary management is crucial.

Observational Study
Clinical risk factors associated with recurrence of ischemic stroke within two years: A cohort study.
To identify the clinical risk factors and investigate the efficacy of a classification model based on the identified factors for predicting 2-year recurrence after ischemic stroke. From June 2017 to January 2019, 358 patients with first-ever ischemic stroke were enrolled and followed up in Shenzhen Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. Demographic and clinical characteristics were recorded by trained medical staff. ⋯ Ten risk factors were identified, and an effective classification model was built. This may aid clinicians in identifying high-risk patients who would benefit most from intensive follow-up and aggressive risk factor reduction. The clinical trial registration number: ChiCTR1800019647.

Although the inverse correlation between smoking and degenerative arthritis is controversial, quantitative analysis of the correlation between lifetime cigarette smoking amount and degenerative arthritis has not been performed. We investigated the correlation between knee radiographic osteoarthritis (ROA) and lifetime cigarette smoking amount in the general population. This cross-sectional study used the Fifth and Sixth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2010-2013) data. ⋯ Second-and fourth-quartile groups of smokers had the lower ROA prevalence than never-smokers (OR, 0.800; 95% CI, 0.643-0.99; OR, 0.812; 95% CI, 0.684-0.965, respectively). An inverse correlation with knee ROA was confirmed in mid-light to heavy smokers. Prospective studies are needed to reveal whether knee ROA involves smoking.

Expectant management and live birth outcomes for male balanced-translocation carriers: Two case reports and a literature review.
Couples with male balanced-translocation carriers may experience recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL). Although the expectant management of RPL has developed over many years, genetic counseling for RPL couples with male balanced-translocation carriers remains challenging. Here, we describe the expectant management of 2 male carriers of balanced translocations. ⋯ Expectant management with natural conception may be an alternative to genetic counseling in male balanced-translocation carriers with RPL, especially those who are reluctant to undergo preimplantation diagnosis.
