Comparative Study
Comparison of total disc arthroplasty and fusion in treatment of lumbar disc disease: A cohort study protocol.
In recent years, the clinical efficacy of spinal fusion (SF) or total disc arthroplasty (TDA) in the treatment of the degenerative lumbar disc disease is still controversial. The objective of this retrospective clinical trial was to investigate whether TDA was superior to the SF in the complication rates and clinical outcome scores. ⋯ The null hypothesis is that there is no significant difference in outcomes between TDA and SF in the treatment of degenerative lumbar disc disease.

Bipolar disorder (BD), a common kind of mood disorder with frequent recurrence, high rates of additional comorbid conditions and poor compliance, has an unclear pathogenesis. The Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database is a gene expression database created and maintained by the National Center for Biotechnology Information. Researchers can download expression data online for bioinformatics analysis, especially for cancer research. However, there is little research on the use of such bioinformatics analysis methodologies for mental illness by downloading differential expression data from the GEO database. ⋯ Although there are 3 hub genes [HSP90AA1, UBE3A, and CUL 1] that are tightly correlated with the occurrence of BD, mainly based on routine bioinformatics methods for cancer-related disease, the feasibility of applying this single GEO bioinformatics approach for mental illness is questionable, given the significant differences between mental illness and cancer-related diseases.

Novel coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) has become a worldwide epidemic, causing huge loss of life and property. Because of its unique pathological mechanism, diabetes affects the prognosis of patients with COVID-19 in many aspects. At present, there are many controversies about whether angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors/angiotensin receptor blockers (ACEI/ARB) should be used in the treatment of patients with diabetes mellitus and COVID-19 comorbidities. There is an urgent need to provide evidence for the use of ACEI/ARB through high-quality systematic evaluation and meta-analysis. ⋯ INPLASY 202060111.

Many cancer patients experience gastrointestinal adverse reaction during chemotherapy. Pharmacological interventions are commonly used to treat chemotherapy-induced gastrointestinal side effects but have various limitations. Clinical trials have indicated that moxibustion may alleviate gastrointestinal dysfunction and improve quality of life (QoL) after chemotherapy. This study aims to assess the efficacy and safety of moxibustion for chemotherapy-induced gastrointestinal adverse reaction through a systematic review and meta-analysis. ⋯ CRD42020182990.

External lumbar drainage (ELD) remains the most common used methods with a higher sensitivity before lumboperitoneal shunt (LPS) implantation to predict the shunt outcomes in the treatment of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus. However, the benefits of such supplemental test have not been tested in the treatment of post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus (PHH). ⋯ The results of this trial will demonstrate whether preoperative evaluation using temporary ELD for patients with PHH could attenuate the risk of LPS failure.
