Viral pneumonia is a common respiratory disease that leads to high mortality around the world. Tanreqing (TRQ) injection has been widely used to treat viral pneumonia in China. However, the efficiency and safety of TRQ injection for viral pneumonia have not been scientifically and methodically evaluated up to now. Thus, this protocol describes a plan of performing a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy and safety of TRQ injection on patients with viral pneumonia. ⋯ PROSPERO CRD42020164164.

Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a serious eating disorder associated with a distorted body image. Hypercholesterolemia has been found in patients with AN but the mechanism of hyperlipidemia in AN remains little known. Ascites in patients with AN has been attributed to hypoalbuminemia and liver diseases, but massive ascites without the aforementioned etiologies has never been reported in AN. ⋯ Diagnostic crossover between subtypes in anorexia nervosa might be a potential risk factor for illness severity and poor prognosis. AN can manifest as massive ascites with normal albumin concentrations that could possibly be due to chronic inflammation of the intestinal serosa, mesentery, and peritoneal surface of the liver.

Allogeneic red blood cell transfusion is an independent risk factor for 1-year mortality in elderly patients undergoing femoral neck fracture surgery: Retrospective study.
Allogeneic red blood cell transfusion (ABT) is 1 of the poor prognostic factors for morbidity and mortality in patients with hip fracture, particularly among elderly patients. This study aimed to investigate the risk factors for ABT and 1-year mortality in elderly patients undergoing surgery for femoral neck fracture. A total of 225 elderly patients who underwent femoral neck fracture surgery between May 2013 and November 2015 at a tertiary medical center were retrospectively recruited. ⋯ In this study, underlying comorbidities such as chronic kidney disease and malignancy were associated with ABT. Furthermore, ABT was a significant independent risk factor for 1-year mortality. These findings suggest that underlying comorbidities and the need for ABT should be considered in the risk assessment of elderly patients with femoral neck fracture to improve the outcomes after surgery.

Risk factors such as smoking and sugar intake threaten the health of human being at an individual national level as well as at a global level. The globalization affect health indirectly through macro and micro-level factors. This study aimed to identify the global trend of dental caries according to countries national income level, and to examine the role of globalization, health services, obesity, and sugar consumption on dental caries. ⋯ The results of PLS-SEM revealed that globalization was associated with lower DMFT in HIC. The global dental caries trend had a declined pattern, but this pattern has been attenuated in MLIC after the new millennium. There is a need for policy change and regulations on sugar trade especially in MLIC to diminish the adverse consequences of globalization, and to improve population dental health.

The choice between unicondylar knee arthroplasty (UKA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is likely to have long-term implications for patient-reported health outcomes. However, high-quality studies that compare the outcomes of TKA and UKA and their effects are still lacking in the literature. Thus, the aim of the present study was to compare the UKA and TKA techniques with regard to functional outcomes and perioperative complications in patients who had isolated medial osteoarthritis. ⋯ We hypothesized that there was no significant difference between the 2 groups in terms of postoperative outcomes.
