Autosomal dominant type II (AD II) osteopetrosis is a rare inheritable metabolic bone disease characterized by hard but brittle bone and a narrow medullary canal. Intramedullary nailing (IMN) is a difficult but attractive option for the treatment of subtrochanteric fractures in patients with AD II osteopetrosis. ⋯ Although IMN is difficult to perform owing to partial obliteration of the medullary canal in AD II osteopetrosis, it can be performed with sequential widening of the medullary canal using various instruments. In addition, the fracture gap should not be left uncorrected during IMN to attain fracture union.

Scintigraphic peritoneography in the diagnosis of pleuroperitoneal leak complicating peritoneal dialysis: A comparison with conventional diagnostic methods.
A pleuroperitoneal leak (PPL) is a relatively rare complication of peritoneal dialysis (PD) and early diagnosis is essential. Patients suspected of a PPL usually present with dyspnea (marked during inflow of PD fluid) and tend to have transudative high glucose pleural effusions. The PPL scintigraphy (PPLS) is one of the methods for objectively proving a PPL. ⋯ A statistically significant correlation between the outcome of the scan and final decision on patient management was noted (P < .01). The PPLS is an effective diagnostic tool for assessing PPLS. However, multicenter studies investigating its added value over other conventional methods are needed to establish it as a highly relevant diagnostic tool.

Esophageal cancer is a common malignant tumor of the digestive system with a high incidence and a poor prognosis. At the present, CT-based radiomics is providing more and more valuable information. However, the heterogeneity of the study and the poor repeatability of the texture feature parameters have limited its wider clinical application. ⋯ Run-length matrix (RLM) features in tumor group accounted for the highest proportion, only Surface Volume Ratio was different. There are differences in the texture features of the tube wall in different parts of the esophagus of healthy adults, and this difference is more obvious in pT3 stage esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. In the future radiomics study of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, we need to pay attention to this to avoid affecting the accuracy of the results.

Syndesmotic injuries account for a significant number of ankle injuries. There is no consensus regarding the recommended method of treatment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate: METHODS:: This study was performed and reported in accordance with the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational studies in Epidemiology checklist. The records of 200 patients with ankle fractures who had undergone surgical treatment in our clinics between January 2014 and January 2018 were retrospectively investigated. This retrospective cohort study was approved by the institutional review board in the 2nd Hospital of Jilin University. The primary outcome measure was the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society ankle-hindfoot scale and the Foot Function Index. Secondary outcome measures included visual analog scale score, complications, range of movement of ankle, reoperations, and radiologic outcomes. For statistical comparison of the clinical and radiologic findings between the 2 groups, we used SPSS, version 21.0 (SPSS, Chicago, IL), statistical software. P Values of < .05 were considered statistically significant. ⋯ The hypothesis was that the SB technique would achieve better functional outcomes as compared to the syndesmotic screw technique after surgery.

To evaluate the effect of dl-3-N-butylphthalide (NBP) on new cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). ⋯ The stronger evidence about the effect of NBP on new CMBs in AIS patients will be provided for clinicians.
