Observational Study
Association between phonation and the vowel quadrilateral in patients with stroke: A retrospective observational study.
Articulation disorder is associated with impaired control of respiration and speech organ movement. There are many cases of dysarthria and dysphonia in stroke patients. Dysphonia adversely affects communication and social activities, and it can interfere with everyday life. ⋯ The correlation coefficients of VSA and MPT/u/ were 0.420, VSA and MPT/i/ were 0.536, VSA and DSI/u/ were 0.392, VSA and DSI /i/ were 0.364, and FCR and DSI /i/ were -0.448. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that VSA was a factor significantly influencing MPT/u/ (β = 0.420, P = .021, R = 0.147), MPT/i/ (β = 0.536, P = .002, R = 0.262), DSI/u/ (β = 0.564, P = .045, R = 0.256), and DSI/i/ (β = 0.600, P = .03, R = 0.302). The vowel quadrilateral can be a useful tool for evaluating the phonation function of stroke patients.

Periostitis in systemic vasculitis is very rare with only a few previously reported cases. The reported cases were seen in polyarteritis nodosa or Takayasu arteritis. We report the first case of periostitis associated with IgA vasculitis with demonstration of computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features, and serial changes of radiographs. ⋯ Awareness of this uncommon manifestation would help differential diagnosis of periostitis and could help decrease the patient's anxiety. It should also be noted that periosteal reactions by benign entities could cause aggressive-looking periosteal reactions in post-operative regions.

Functional constipation is a chronic disease that is common in children and adults around the world. The treatments for functional constipation include diet and lifestyle interventions, medications, and surgery. The diet pattern plays an important role in the occurrence of constipation. We found in clinical practice that simple application of drugs cannot achieve long-term relief of constipation, and a large number of patients are not satisfied with the existing treatment. We have concluded that Qingjiang Tiaochang Recipe (QJTCR) and light vegetarian diet (LVD) can effectively improve constipation. However, there is no enough evidence for the description of the effect. This protocol aims at exploratorily investigating effectiveness and safety of LVD and QJTCR following a rigorous clinical trial. ⋯ We will recruit 90 patients to participate in this prospective, placebo-controlled, randomized trial, and exploratory study at the China-Japan Friendship Hospital, including traditional Chinese medicine group, placebo + diet group, traditional Chinese medicine + diet group. Patients in the diet intervention group must strictly abide by LVD, and the study will continue for 28 days. During the intervention period, we need to record a designed diary to assess diet quality and defecation. The primary outcomes for this clinical study were weekly complete spontaneous bowel movements. The secondary outcomes were constipation-related symptom rating scale, traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scale, and 48-hour gastrointestinal transit time, high-resolution anorectal manometry, Bristol stool score, constipation quality of life assessment scale, constipation symptoms self-assessment scale, short-chain fatty acids in feces. In addition, the study will determine the safety of the intervention.

Short stature is reportedly associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, the mechanism underlying this intriguing epidemiological finding is unclear. Pulse wave velocity (PWV), a marker of vascular stiffness, is a predictor of future CVD. ⋯ In the multiple regression analysis with adjustment for identified confounders, group height was a predictor of baPWV (P for trend = .003) in younger men (<50 years old) but not in older men, while group height was correlated with baPWV in older women (≥50 years old, P for trend = .014) but not in younger women. Height is inversely correlated with baPWV in subjects without overt CVD, especially in younger men and older women. This may explain the historical epidemiological observation of an inverse relationship between height and CVD.

Meta Analysis
Prognostic significance of tumor-associated macrophages in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma: A meta-analysis.
To explore the prognostic value of diverse subsets of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) in prognosis in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) using meta-analysis. ⋯ CD68+ TAM density is associated with superior DFS, while CD163+ M2-like TAMs predicted poor prognosis in patients with NPC.
