Multifocal acquired demyelinating sensory and motor neuropathy (MADSAM) is an asymmetric immune-related neuropathy with conduction block. We report 2 MADSAM cases with detailed clinical, electrophysiological, and sonography profiles. ⋯ These observations suggest a more widespread pathomechanism underlying MADSAM, and ultrasound may detect nerve lesions earlier than clinical electrophysiology studies, and is warranted for early detection and thorough documentation of nerve pathology.

The World Health Organization recommends point-of-care testing (POCT) to detect human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infected individuals in the community. This will help improve treatment coverage through detection of HIV infection among those who are unaware of their status. This study was planned with an objective to investigate the feasibility and acceptability of POCT for HIV in the community. ⋯ Two of the newly diagnosed participants and their spouses were linked to care. There was a high acceptability of POCT and wider coverage of priority population with a strategy of testing at places preferable to the study population. Therefore, we believe that community-based POCT is a promising tool for improving HIV testing coverage even in low prevalence settings with the concentrated HIV epidemic.

An unusual huge thymoma composed of sclerosing thymoma and type AB thymoma: A case report.
Sclerosing thymoma (ST) is quite a rare disease, as denoted in previous literature. Less than 20 cases of ST have been reported to date. However, the combined thymoma, composed of both type AB thymoma and ST, has never been described before. ⋯ ST is a very rare mediastinal neoplasm. Moreover, ST in combination with AB thymoma and affecting a large area, is unprecedented. Whether radiotherapy and chemotherapy have a certain effect on ST requires further investigation. In addition, due to the unclear recurrence rate of ST, long-term follow-up evaluation seems necessary.

Our objective was to characterize the risks of maternal deaths in cancer patients compared to the general population using a large population-based cohort. Female patients with a cancer first diagnosed at ages 15 to 39 years between 2000 and 2016 (N = 240,561) from the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results database were extracted, among which 165 maternal deaths were observed. We found Hispanic ethnic groups, advanced cancer stage, receiving chemotherapy were associated with a higher risk of maternal deaths compared to the general the United States population. Patients with cancers of the respiratory system were at the highest risk of maternal deaths, followed by cancers of the digestive system, and hematological malignancies.

Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is the most common cause of acute liver failure in the United States. Painkillers and fever antipyretics are the most common cause of DILI. Hepatic injury can be provoked by DILI as hepatocellular or cholestatic type. ⋯ In patients with renal cell carcinoma, pazopanib treatment requires clinical caution as it causes rare complications such as severe jaundice and acute cholestatic hepatitis.
