High polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) intake is recommended for primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, the association of PUFAs with blood pressure (BP) is still controversial. In the present study, two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was performed to investigate the causal relationship of PUFAs with BP, including systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and pulse pressure (PP). ⋯ There was no evidence of a causal relationship between either docosapentaenoic acid (DPA) or docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) with DBP. In conclusion, a genetic predisposition to plasma polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) had a divergent effect on DBP, independent of SBP. It suggested that it is helpful for lower DBP level to supplemental intake of AA and EPA or promote the conversion of LA and ALA to AA and EPA respectively, which need to be further validated with randomized controlled studies.

To investigate whether laryngeal cancer cells express erythropoietin (Epo) and erythropoietin receptor (EpoR) and what is their possible relationship with clinical and pathological features of the tumor. We performed immunohistochemical analysis of Epo and EpoR expression on 78 tissue samples of invasive and in situ squamous cell laryngeal carcinoma. The statistical analysis showed a weak positive and statistically significant correlation of EpoHS and EpoR HS expression levels. ⋯ The results show a statistically significant difference in Epo expression with respect to survival. We confirmed the presence of Epo an EpoR in malignant laryngeal tumors and demonstrated the correlation between Epo expression and survival. Further studies are needed to more precisely define the role of Epo and EpoR in treatment of patients with laryngeal cancer.

A rare intraocular lens surface foreign body during phacoemulsification surgery: A case report.
Only a few cases of intraocular lens (IOL) opacification during phacoemulsification surgery have been reported in the literature; intraoperative emergency due to IOL surface foreign body is even rarer. ⋯ This case suggests that surgeons should carefully observe IOLs before implantation. In addition, effective preoperative planning and skillful surgery can remove foreign bodies smoothly and improve patient vision.

S100 family members: potential therapeutic target in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma: A STROBE study.
Proteins in S100 family exhibit different expressions patterns and perform different cytological functions, playing substantial roles in certain cancers, carcinogenesis, and disease progression. However, the expression and role of S100 family members in the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains unclear. To investigate the effect of S100 family members for the prognosis of liver cancer, we assessed overall survival (OS) using a Kaplan-Meier plotter (KM plotter) in liver cancer patients with different situation. ⋯ We then evaluated the prognostic values of S100 family members expression for evaluating different stages of AJCC-T, vascular invasion, alcohol consumption, and the presence of hepatitis virus in liver cancer patients. Lastly, we studied the prognostic values of S100 family members expression for patients after sorafenib treatment. In conclusion, our findings show that the proteins of S100 family members exhibit differential expression and may be useful as targets for liver cancer, facilitating novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in cancer.

Chinese herbal medicine injections (CHMIs) are frequently used for various refractory diseases including chronic pulmonary heart disease (CPHD). However, due to the diversity of CHMIs treatments, its relative effectiveness and safety remain unclear. In our study, Bayesian network meta-analysis will be used to identify differences in efficacy and safety between diverse CHMI for CPHD. ⋯ The findings will provide reference for evaluating the efficacy and safety of different CHMIs for CPHD, and provide a helpful evidence for clinicians to formulate the best adjuvant treatment strategy for CPHD patients.
