Microbiota plays an important role in many diseases including inflammatory bowel diseases. Inflammatory bowel disease patients can have concurrent irritable bowel syndrome symptoms similar to those associated with a flare. The potential role of gut dysbiosis in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease provides a rationale for treating such patients with rifaximin. ⋯ Monthly analyses of bloating score, abdominal pain score, stool consistency score, and quality of life score showed significant improvement after treatment in the rifaximin group in contrast with control group. Significantly more patients in the rifaximin group than in the control group met the criteria for adequate improvement of bloating score after 3 months of treatment (59.09% vs 19.04%, P = .01), adequate improvement of abdominal pain score (54.5% vs 21.4%, P = .04), stool consistency score (34.09% vs 14.2%, P = .03), and quality of life score (70.4% vs 21.4%, P < .001). Rifaximin in a dose of 1200 mg/d, 10 d/mo, 3 months consecutively is an effective medication for concurrent irritable bowel syndrome-like symptoms in patients with Crohn's disease in remission.

Observational Study
Retrospective study of relationship between vastus medialis volume on SPECT-CT and outcome of unilateral total knee arthroplasty.
Although the importance of quadriceps femoris function was reported previously, little is known about volume-related factors and their effects on clinical outcomes after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). We sought to determine whether there was a bilateral difference in vastus medialis muscle volume measured on single-photon emission computed tomography-computed tomography (SPECT-CT) in patients who underwent unilateral TKA. We also aimed to determine whether vastus medialis volume was related to osteoarthritis (OA) severity or scintigraphic uptake degree around the knee joint on SPECT-CT. ⋯ However, a decreased vastus medialis muscle volume was related to worse clinical outcomes after TKA (P = .045), whereas the degree of scintigraphic uptake on SPECT-CT was not associated with postoperative clinical outcomes. Muscle volume of vastus medialis was decreased in the operated knee than in the nonoperated knee, and that was correlated with worse postoperative results. Even if the preoperative volume of vastus medialis were not related to OA severity on conventional radiographs and scintigraphic uptake on SPECT-CT, preservation and improvement of the muscle mass of the knee undergoing TKA is important.

We investigated the association between high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and rs2014355 variant in the gene, short-chain acyl-coenzyme A dehydrogenase (ACADS) based on exercise habits. Data collected between 2008 and 2015 for individuals aged 30 to 70 years were available in the Taiwan Biobank (TWB) database. Backward stepwise linear regression was used to evaluate the associations of rs2014355 and exercise with HDL-C levels. ⋯ Multivariate analyses showed significant association between TC+CC genotype and HDL-C in the exercise (β = 1.09785; P value = .0146) compared to the no-exercise group (β = -0.03754, P = .9154). In summary, the association between HDL-C and exercise differed significantly with respect to ACADS rs2014355 genotypes. Compared to the TT genotype, the TC+CC genotype together with exercise was associated with higher levels of HDL-C.

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is a common surgery accompanied by some unpleasant adverse effects. Clinical trials indicated that acupuncture therapy may help reduce complications in LC. However, no systematic reviews have been conducted on the topic. Therefore, we will evaluate the current evidence and provide a rank for the efficacy of acupuncture therapy in LC by performing Bayesian network meta-analysis. ⋯ The protocol has been registered on INPLASY2020120056.

Review Case Reports
Prenatal detection of a 3q29 microdeletion in a fetus with ventricular septum defect: A case report and literature review.
Chromosomal 3q deletion is a recurrent genomic alternation, which is rarely reported in clinic. ⋯ For the chromosomal microscopic imbalances partially overlapping with the defined pathogenic syndrome, deleted/duplicated size, genetic materials and phenotypic diversity should be taken into consideration when genetic counseling is offered by the clinicians.
