MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play critical roles in carcinogenesis and development of cancers. In this study, we analyzed the eccentrically expressed miRNAs in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) tissues based on the miRNA-Seq data of HNSCC patients available in the Cancer Genome Atlas database. Aberrant expression of 2589 miRNAs was detected in HNSCC tissues (1128 downregulated and 1461 upregulated). ⋯ Moreover, all 4 miRNAs inhibited the progression of primary tumors (T stage) and metastasis of regional lymph nodes (N stage). The top 4 aberrantly expressed miRNAs identified in this study have great clinical value in developing strategies for early diagnosis and treatment of HNSCC. More intensive studies are required to elucidate the mechanism underlying the roles of these miRNAs in HNSCC.

Analysis of 17,428 pregnant women undergoing non-invasive prenatal testing for fetal chromosome in Northeast China.
Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) is an incomparable prenatal screening technology, but we should undergo amniocentesis to confirm fetal chromosome when pregnancies receive a positive result via NIPT. We aimed to investigate the detection rate and positive predictive value of NIPT results in pregnancies from Northeast China, and to determine the reasons for false positive and false negative NIPT results. This study evaluates 17,428 singleton pregnancies had undergone NIPT detection. 202 samples were NIPT positive with the detection rate was 1.16% (202/17,428). ⋯ These findings indicate that the positive predictive value of T21, T18, and T13 was found to be 75% with a 0.07% false positive rate. It is worth noting that the positive predictive value of NIPT for autosomes and sex chromosomes. Moreover, if women receive a positive result via NIPT, they should pay attention to the results with undergoing further prenatal diagnosis.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) in the let-7 family have established regulatory roles in pregnancy; in this study, we evaluated whether miRNAs detectable in the circulation are associated with the ovarian response to stimulation. In total, 25 patients with infertility were divided into 3 groups: poor response (n = 9), moderate response (n = 8), and hyper-response (n = 8). Serum and endometrial tissue samples on the second day of the menstrual phase, serum samples during the mid-luteal phase, and follicular fluid samples were collected from women undergoing in vitro fertilization. ⋯ There were no significant differences in expression levels in the endometria and follicular fluid among groups (P > .05). Circulating let-7g-5p, 7f-5p, and 7i-5p were differentially expressed between the moderate response group and the high and poor response groups. The combination of these serum miRNAs during the menstrual phase might serve as a non-invasive predictive marker for the ovarian response to in vitro fertilization.

There is still debate regarding the pathogenic relationship between alcohol intake and osteoarthritis (OA). This study investigated the association between alcohol consumption and knee OA in a Korean population. Among 8058 subjects who participated in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) 2012, a total of 2917 subjects over the age of 50 and taken plain radiography was included in this analysis. ⋯ However, knee OA was not associated with the categories of alcohol consumption amount (g/day), including total daily alcohol intake (g/day), soju daily intake (g/day), and makgeolli daily intake (g/day) (P > .05 of all). Alcohol consumption was negatively associated with prevalence of knee OA in a Korean population. This preliminary observation will need to be confirmed in future studies.

Comparison of similarity and difference in research types among journals are concerned in literature. However, to date, none display the methodology seen in selecting similar journals related to the target journal, as similar articles did to a given article. Authors need 1 effective method not only to find similar journals for their studies but also to know the difference in methods. This study (1) shows the similar journals for the target journal online displayed, and (2) identifies the effect of similarity odds ratio compared to the counterparts using the forest plots in Meta-analysis and the major medical subject headings (MeSH terms). ⋯ SNA and forest plots provide deep insight into the relationships between journals in MeSH terms. The results of this research can provide readers with a concept diagram that can be used for future submissions to a given journal.
