Hereditary hemochromatosis (HH) is a major cause of liver iron overload. The gold standard for the diagnosis of liver iron overload is the histopathological analysis of a liver sample collected by biopsy. The biopsy procedure is both invasive and painful and carries some risks of complications. The multi-echo single-voxel magnetic resonance spectroscopy (HISTO) technique can be used for noninvasive, quantitative assessment of liver iron overload. ⋯ HH should be considered when hepatic iron deposition is suspected by routine magnetic resonance, as the HISTO sequence can quantitate liver iron deposition and leads to a promising diagnosis. HISTO is of great value in familial cases, especially in young patients requiring long-term follow-up.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterized by accelerated lung aging. Smoking is the critical risk factor for COPD. Cellular senescence of airway epithelial cells is the cytological basis of accelerated lung aging in COPD, and the regulation of microRNAs (miRNAs) is the central epigenetic mechanism of cellular senescence. ⋯ SIRT1 is a target of miR-34a-5p. Overexpression of miR-34a-5p via transfection with miR-34a-5p mimic in BEAS-2B cells attenuated the inhibitory effect of Res on cellular senescence, accompanied by reversing the expression of SIRT1 and NF-κB p65. In conclusion, Res attenuated CSE-induced cellular senescence in BEAS-2B cells by regulating the miR-34a/SIRT1/NF-κB pathway, which may provide a new approach for COPD treatment.

Traditional Chinese tongue diagnosis plays an irreplaceable role in disease diagnosis. This study aimed to describe the tongue characteristics of patients with granulomatous lobular mastitis (GLM). Forty GLM patients and 40 non-GLM controls were evaluated using the Traditional Chinese Medicine subjective clinical interpretation and a TDA-1 Tongue Diagnostic and Analysis system. ⋯ Also, tongue coating contrast and entropy values were significantly correlated with WBC or TGF-β levels in GLM patients (r < -0.310 and P < .05). We demonstrated that the hot evil and phlegm-dampness constitutions are the main characteristics of GLM. This might provide a reference for GLM diagnosis.

A vast majority of studies evaluated pregnant women's knowledge and attitudes towards using medications during their pregnancy, with few global and lack of regional studies conducted to spot obstetrician-gynecologists practices in this regard. This study aims to assess Obstetrician-gynecologists' knowledge of medication teratogenicity potential, their frequently used resources, and their residency training contribution to medication use during pregnancy. This is a cross-sectional, survey-based study targeting licensed Obstetrician-gynecologists who are practicing in Saudi Arabia using a validated self-administered web-based questionnaire developed by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. ⋯ The majority adequately and significantly rated their training on prescribed medications (58.3%), OTC medications (45%) and dietary supplements or herbal remedies (32%) (P value < .05). Obstetrician-gynecologists showed a different level of knowledge about the risks and safety of medications when used during pregnancy. More efforts are needed to optimize medication selection, herbal avoidance, and training performance.

Medial maxillary fractures are defined as fractures of the medial aspect of the maxilla, that is, fractures of the nasomaxillary buttress. The diagnosis of medial maxillary (nasomaxillary buttress) fractures is challenging because of its similarities with nasal, and naso-orbito-ethmoidal (NOE) fractures. ⋯ Medial maxillary (nasomaxillary buttress) fractures are not included in any current classification of the maxillary fracture patterns. As medial maxillary (nasomaxillary buttress) fractures are similar to nasal, and NOE fractures, careful differential diagnosis is required before selecting the surgical procedure to be performed because the treatment of concomitant fractures is also necessary.
