The shift towards home-based care has resulted in increased provision of home healthcare and home help to older adults. Infections acquired in older adults while receiving home care have increased too, resulting in unplanned yet avoidable hospitalizations. In recent years, several studies have reported an array of factors associated with risk of infection; however, no previous systematic review has compiled such evidence, which is important to better protect older adults. Therefore, we have outlined the work of a systematic review that aims to identify risk factors for infection in older adults receiving home healthcare and/or home help. ⋯ The results could guide future policy on effective infection control in the home care sector.

Effects of midazolam co-induction to general anesthesia: A randomized clinical trial.
This study aimed to determine the potential advantages of midazolam co-induction with general anesthesia (GA) over the use of propofol alone. ⋯ Midazolam co-induction prevented a marked decline in SAP/MAP/DAP immediately after induction of GA, led to reduced postoperative anxiety and cortisol response to surgery, and reduced propofol requirements for induction.

Hearing damage is one of the main toxic effects of platinum compounds, it derives from the irreversible degeneration of hair cells of the ear. Genetic association studies have suggested an association between GSTP1 c.313A>G variant and platinum-induced ototoxicity in childhood cancer survivors. We aimed to detect the frequency of ototoxicity and associated risk factors in survivors of childhood cancer receiving platinum-based chemotherapy and to detect the relation between GSTP1 c.313A>G (rs1695) polymorphisms and ototoxicity. ⋯ The AA, AG, and GG types of GSTP1 c.313A>G variant were detected in 84.4%, 9.4%, and 6.3%, respectively, of patients with HL with a significant association between mutant genotype of GSTP1 rs1695 and platinum-induced ototoxicity (P = .035). HL was not significantly associated with the total cumulative dose of cisplatin and carboplatin. GSTP1 c.313A>G variant may increase the risk of HL in pediatric oncology patients treated with cisplatin or carboplatin chemotherapy.

Ischemic heart disease is the main cause of heart failure, which seriously endangers the health of people and puts a huge burden on health care resources all over the world. We propose the current protocol to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Rhodiola on ischemic heart disease, providing a reference for clinical use. ⋯ This study will provide a theoretical basis for the clinical use of Rhodiola formulation for treating ischemic heart disease.

Adjuvant probiotic Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis CP-9 improve phototherapeutic treatment outcomes in neonatal jaundice among full-term newborns: A randomized double-blind clinical study.
Probiotics had been used to decreased bilirubin level in neonatal jaundice (NJ) without being further studied mechanism and stratification. The intestinal pathogen Escherichia coli produced β-glucuronidase would increase enterohepatic circulation and elevate serum bilirubin levels (SBLs) which might worsen the disease process of NJ. ⋯ In conclusion, B. animalis subsp. lactis CP-9 synergistically improves treatment outcomes of NJ during in-hospital phototherapy including reduced total phototherapy duration and improved serum bilirubin decline rate, particularly in full-term newborns.
