Laryngeal preserving concurrent chemoradiation has been advocated for hypopharyngeal cancers. The use of radiotherapy (RT) in the larynx could lead to increased rates of radionecrosis. In this study, we investigated a rare but disastrous complication, carotid blow-out syndrome (CBS), related with the persistent radionecrosis. ⋯ Persistent PLCRN could lead to disastrous vascular complications. CBSs were demonstrated to be more frequently originated from the branches of carotid artery rather than carotid artery per se. Clinical alert with early airway protection could strive for time to do interventions and prevent mortalities.

The efficacy of cap-assisted and water-exchange colonoscopy, individually or in combination for adenoma detection is well documented. Moreover, prone positioning colonoscopy may also improve adenoma detection by decreasing loop formation. However, the efficacy of triple-combination colonoscopy using the above methods for adenoma detection is unclear. ⋯ PDR, ADR, and proximal colon MAP were significantly higher in the CWP group than in the CC group (PDR: 84.9% vs 59.8%, P < .01; ADR: 70.1%, vs 49.2%, P < .01; proximal colon MAP: 1.24 vs 0.55, P < .01). CWP is more effective than CC for PDR, ADR, and proximal colon MAP. Although it may facilitate adenoma detection, further studies assessing the synergistic or complementary effects of combining these methods are needed.

Spinal fractures are common intra-articular fractures. Osteoporosis is a common and frequent disease among the elderly with a poor prognosis and a high risk of spinal fractures. However, the underlying factors for spinal fractures in patients with osteoporosis are unclear. ⋯ In addition, Cox regression analysis showed that vitamin B12 expression was significantly associated with maintenance time from recovery to recurrence (MTRR) of spinal fractures in patients with osteoporosis. Enhanced vitamin B12 is significantly correlated with the poor prognosis of patients with osteoporosis and the increasing incidence of a spinal fracture. The higher the vitamin B12, the higher the risk of spinal fracture and the shorter the time to spinal fracture recurrence.

Breast cancer susceptibility gene 2 (BRCA2) is the main gene associated with hereditary breast cancers. However, a mutation in BRCA2 has also been found in other tumors, such as ovarian, pancreatic, thyroid, gastric, laryngeal, and prostate cancers. In this review, we discuss the biological functions of BRCA2 and the role of BRCA2 mutations in tumor progression and therapy.

Pain is the most common complaint in the dental field and may have a significant impact on the patients' quality of life. However, objective pain assessment is sometimes difficult, and medical and dental clinicians may encounter cases of pain in the head and neck region, making it difficult to establish differential diagnoses. This study aimed to review acute pain in clinical dentistry at each phase of dental procedures and discuss the current status and issues in the development of acute dental pain assessment methods in the future. ⋯ They are related to actual or potential tissue damage, and may be modified and aided by personal experiences, including psychological and social factors. With respect to the aging and multinational population and pandemic of infectious diseases, significant breakthroughs in the development of new pain scales without verbal descriptions are desirable. Furthermore, it is expected that a new pain scale that can be applied to acute pain in the head and neck regions, including the oral cavity, will be developed.
