Operative hysteroscopy intravascular absorption syndrome (OHIAS) results from systemic absorption of hypotonic solution during hysteroscopy, which may induce severe hyponatremia within hours. Depending on the serum sodium (Na+) level, this can be life-threatening and requires prompt and careful remedial treatment. ⋯ The detection of OHIAS may be delayed under general anesthesia, and prior vigilance is important if the operation time is prolonged. In severe hyponatremia with an apparently rapid onset, such as OHIAS, a two-step correction process may be safe and useful: rapid correction followed by more gradual correction.

To determine the usefulness of lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and inflammatory response biomarker (IRB) score for predicting disease-specific survival and delayed cervical lymph node metastasis in early-stage oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). We retrospectively analyzed 72 patients with early-stage OSCC. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was used to determine the cutoff values for LMR, NLR, and PLR. ⋯ However, there were no independent factors for poor prognosis in multivariate analysis. On the other hand, for delayed cervical lymph node metastasis, poor mode of invasion, low LMR, high NLR, high PLR, and high IRB score were identified as significant risk factors from univariate analysis, and in multivariate analysis, poor mode of invasion and high IRB score were confirmed as independent risk factors. IRB score and mode of invasion are potentially independent risk factors for delayed cervical lymph node metastasis in early-stage OSCC.

A common concern in the literature is the comparison of the similarities and differences between research journals, as well as the types of research they publish. At present, there are no clear methodologies that can be applied to a given article of interest. When authors use an effective and efficient method to locate journals in similar fields, they benefit greatly. By using the forest plot and major medical subject headings (MeSH terms) of Spine (Phila Pa 1976) compared to Spine J, this study: displays relatively similar journals to the target journal online and identifies the effect of the similarity odds ratio of Spine (Phila Pa 1976) compared to Spine J. ⋯ The SNA and forest plot provide a detailed overview of the inter-journal relationships and the target journal using MeSH terms. Based on the findings of this research, readers are provided with knowledge and concept diagrams that can be used in future submissions to related journals.

Cataracts and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) are common causes of decreased vision and blindness in individuals over age 50. Although surgery is the most effective treatment for cataracts, it may accelerate the progression of AMD, so this study further evaluated the influence of cataract surgery for AMD through a systematic review and meta-analysis. ⋯ There is still a significant positive correlation between cataract surgery and increase the risk of worsening of AMD progression, and faster progression of early-to-late AMD found in cataract surgery with longer follow-up of patients.

Colonic diverticular bleeding (CDB) is the most frequent cause of acute lower gastrointestinal bleeding. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) for CDB as first-line treatment with extravasation on contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT), compared with endoscopic hemostasis. Three Japanese institutions participated in this retrospective cohort study. ⋯ Even in those cases in which a bleeding point was detected, the rebleeding rate was significantly lower in the TAE group (0%) than in the endoscopic hemostasis-success group (23.91%; P = .005). No severe complications of Grade 3 or more were seen with TAE. We showed that TAE is an effective, safe hemostatic method, and a useful alternative to endoscopic hemostasis for first-line treatment of CDB.
