Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common reproductive metabolic disorder, normally accompanied by insulin resistance (IR). The specific pathogenesis of this disease remains unclear. To identify the underlying pathogenesis of PCOS with IR and explore the potential efficacy and mechanism of Jiawei Huanglian-Wendan decoction (JHWD) by a network pharmacology approach. ⋯ Molecular docking analysis revealed strong binding interactions of the key targets with the active components. Further confirmations showed that the active components of JHWD exhibited significant clinical efficacy in improving the clinical syndromes, menstrual cyclicity and ovulatory function, and significantly reducing the blood lipid levels, blood glucose and insulin levels, and inflammatory cytokines in PCOS with IR patients. The combination of the network pharmacological analysis and clinical validation stated that the active compounds in JHWD could regulate glycolipid metabolism, reduce IR, and exert anti-inflammatory effects in the treatment of PCOS with IR, promoting Chinese classical formulations.

The authors aim to investigate retrospectively the association between acupuncture and risk of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Using the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database, AF patients without any acupuncture treatment record were classified as non-acupuncture cohort and 1:1 matching with acupuncture cohort by age, gender, and all comorbidities. ⋯ After adjusting for risk factors, AF subjects with acupuncture conferred a lower risk of stroke (aHR = 0.46, 95% confidence intervals [CI] = 0.38-0.54), ischemic stroke (aHR = 0.47, 95% CI = 0.39-0.56) and hemorrhagic stroke (aHR = 0.35, 95% CI = 0.19-0.67), compared to the controls. AF patients receiving acupuncture was associated with a decreased risk of stroke.

Hodgkin lymphoma survivors demonstrated increased risk of secondary primary malignancies (SPMs), but comprehensive analysis of the risk and outcome of SPMs in classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) patients has not yet been reported. ⋯ There is a significantly increased risk of developing SPMs for cHL survivors. The overall survival is worse for cHL patients and SPMs is an independent prognostic factor for cHL.

Diet is an important modifiable lifestyle factor, but epidemiological studies evaluating the association between dietary patterns and pancreatic cancer (PC) have reported inconsistent findings. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of several dietary choices on the risk of PC among newly diagnosed Jordanian patients. A case-control study was conducted at major teaching and general hospitals, including a Jordanian oncology center. ⋯ The "Soup" dietary pattern was mainly composed of vermicelli soup, vegetable soup, lentil soup, and mushroom soup, which decreased the odds of PC (OR = 0.18, 95% CI = 0.07-0.38). There was no relation between PC and the "Western" dietary pattern, loaded with beer, wine, roasted lamb, meat, chicken sandwich, beefsteak, and fried fish. The "Traditional," "High-fruit," and "Soup" dietary patterns were associated with reduced risk of PC among Jordanians.

The bronchoscope is a preferential method used to remove airway foreign bodies, but for those located in the distal lumen of bronchus with long-time retention, how to remove them remains an intractable problem. ⋯ This first combined application of manual navigating method, UTB and ultrathin cryoprobe, successfully extracted foreign bodies lodged in the distal airways and thus avoided thoracic surgery.
