No significant progress has been made in the study of orthopedic surgical site infection (SSI) after different orthopedic surgery, and the analysis and prevention of risk factors for orthopedic SSI urgently need to be solved. A total of 154 patients underwent orthopedic surgery from April 2018 to December 2020. General information such as gender, age, marriage, diagnosis, surgical site, and anesthesia method was recorded. ⋯ In terms of multivariate logistic regression level, surgical site (odds ratio [OR] = 1.568, P = .039) was significantly associated with SSI. ROC curves were constructed to determine the effect of the surgical site on SSI after different orthopedic surgery (area under the curve [AUC] = 0.577, 95% CI = 0.487-0.0.666). In summary, the surgical site is an independent risk factor for SSI after orthopedic surgery, and "trauma" is more likely to develop SSI than spine, arthrosis, and others.

Engaging in physical activity (PA) has been proved to reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases. In patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD), diminished PA predicts high overall mortality. However, the extent of the association of participation in PA with PAD severity is unknown. ⋯ Findings of this study highlight the association between PA and severity of PAD. These findings highlight the necessity of interventions in increasing PA in these participants. Future studies are required to identify appropriate exercise regimens or home-based programs to help patients with severe PAD meet the current PA recommendations.

Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) are at increased risk of psychological and physical burden, including sexual dysfunction (SD). This study aimed to assess the prevalence of SD and to identify its predictive factors, in IBD patients. This unicentric cross-sectional case-control survey (ratio 2:1) included patients followed at the day hospital IBD consultation, in the Gastroenterology department of a tertiary referral center, for 2 years. ⋯ SD (P = .007), body image distortion (P < .001), and fatigue (P = .004) were predictors of low QoL (last 15 days, multivariate analysis). SD was more prevalent in IBD patients than in the control group and impacted negatively the QoL of patients. Age was a predictive factor for SD in men while anxiety and depression, and fatigue were predictive of SD in women.

The Virchow-Robin spaces (VRs) in the cerebral glymphatic system play a vital role in waste clearance from the brain. Simple febrile seizures (SFS) are a common type of seizures marked by an inappropriate fluid exchange. The mechanism of evident differences in glymphatic function among SFS with varying seizure duration is unknown. ⋯ However, in the SFS ≤ 5M, VRs measurements were lower than in the SFS > 5M (P < .001). VRs measurements were positively connected with seizure duration and inversely correlated with the course following seizure onset and MRI scan time in both SFS groups. SFS are positively correlated to glymphatic dysfunction since they cause enlarged VRs; additionally, VRs can be used as a biomarker in SFS > 5M and contribute to the mechanism.

Appropriate trunk muscle activity is needed to perform functional activities in cerebral palsy, this study analyzed the activity of trunk muscles during horseback riding machine exercise in children with spastic cerebral palsy. 10 children with spastic cerebral palsy were participated, the activity of the trunk muscles, including both sides of the rectus abdominis, external oblique, latissimus dorsi, and erector spinae in sitting posture and during horseback riding machine exercise were evaluated using a surface electromyography. The activity of bilateral rectus abdominis, external oblique, latissimus dorsi, and erector spinae increased during horseback riding machine exercise than quiet sitting posture. ⋯ Horseback riding machine exercise provides more opportunities to use the trunk muscles for children with spastic cerebral palsy than general sitting posture. In future, it will be of use to investigate the effect of horseback riding machine exercise in patients with cerebral palsy.
