This paper discusses the job characteristics, satisfaction, and stress levels experienced by clinical neurologists in Guizhou Province, China. A questionnaire survey was conducted associated with the 2021 Annual Meeting of Neurology in Guizhou province. After obtaining ethical approval to conduct the study, the target group was asked to complete an anonymous online survey that included sociodemographic data, followed by questions related to job stress and satisfaction as well as future aspirations. ⋯ While 338 (73.5%) said they were proud to be a neurologist, only 123 (26.7%) indicated they were optimistic concerning doctor-patient relationships. Neurologists have significant emotional factors associated with their careers, which are more likely to lead to job burnout and decreased job satisfaction. Attention should be paid to these stresses to improve the retention and job satisfaction of neurologists.

The presence of cholesterol crystals in the anterior chamber is extremely rare, and secondary glaucoma with cholesterol crystals in the anterior chamber, reported in the literature, is even rarer. This paper reports 3 cases of secondary glaucoma with cholesterol crystals in the anterior chamber. ⋯ Anterior chamber cholesterol crystallization is extremely rare and cannot be treated if it does not cause other lesions. However, glaucoma occurred in all 3 cases in this study, and intraocular pressure increased in 1 case after laser treatment and remained stable in 2 cases after surgical treatment. Therefore, the treatment plan for anterior chamber cholesterol crystallization in glaucoma requires further discussion.

This study is to investigate the effect of high serum uric acid (UA) level on oxidative stress and semen quality of male infertility patients. A cohort of 654 male individuals aged between 20 and 45 years old were included in this study, and their semen and venous blood samples were collected. The serum UA, blood glucose, blood lipids, and hormone levels were determined by chemiluminescence method. ⋯ The concentration of seminal plasma α-glucosidase and alkaline phosphatase in the hyperuricemia group decreased significantly (P < .05). Compared with the control group, the contents of ascorbic acid, tartaric acid, lactic acid, and UA in the seminal plasma were significantly reduced in the hyperuricemia group (P < .05). Blood UA level may become a new risk predictor of semen quality in infertile men.

Congenital nephrogenic diabetes insipidus presenting as osmotic demyelination syndrome in infancy: A case report.
Almost 90% of congenital nephrogenic diabetes insipidus (NDI) cases are caused by mutations in the arginine vasopressin receptor 2 gene, which has X-linked recessive inheritance. Although NDI is commonly diagnosed in early infancy based on its characteristic findings, clinical diagnosis can be delayed when no other family members have been diagnosed with NDI because several findings of NDI are nonspecific. ⋯ ODS is an encephalopathy resulting from extreme fluctuations in serum sodium concentration and plasma osmolality. ODS due to hypernatremia has been reported in several patients, although it usually occurs during rapid correction of hyponatremia. Consequences of the central nervous system are a critical complication of NDI that affects prognosis. These consequences can be avoided with treatment. Early blood examination or polyuria in the patient, mother, or another family member and hypernatremic dehydration with good urine output should lead to an early diagnosis and prevent central nervous system consequences.

Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are leading global causes of morbidity and mortality. In patients with both of these conditions, the presence of pulmonary hypertension (PH) can further worsen their prognosis. We examined the outcomes of AMI patients with COPD (AMI+COPD) and without COPD (AMI-COPD), depending on the presence or absence of PH. ⋯ After IPTW adjustment, these differences were statistically attenuated such that all variables were similar between both groups. PH may be associated with the development of new-onset HF (in all patients) and cardiogenic shock (in the AMI+COPD cohort). In addition, PH may be also associated with all-cause mortality, although it was statistically attenuated after IPTW adjustment.
