VV-ECMO combined with prone position ventilation in the treatment of Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia: A case report.
Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PJP) occurs in immunocompromised hosts. It is classified as PJP with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection (HIV-PJP) and PJP without HIV infection (non-HIV PJP). Compared with HIV-PJP, non-HIV PJP is more likely to develop rapidly into respiratory failure, with difficult diagnosis and high mortality. ⋯ VV-ECMO combined with prone position ventilation could be a useful choice for respiratory assistance in non-HIV PJP patients.

Modified internal limiting membrane flap technique for large chronic macular hole: Two case reports.
Internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling and gas tamponade are the standardized treatments for macular holes (MHs). However, the close rate is low, and postoperative vision is unsatisfactory in large, chronic MHs. Currently, various modifications of the ILM flap techniques are being gradually applied for large MHs in the hope of obtaining better postoperative effects. This study described 2 successful cases achieved by "Sandwich-type" modified ILM flap covering technique in patients with large, chronic MHs. ⋯ "Sandwich-type" modified ILM flap covering technique may be a safe, effective way for large, chronic MH.

To investigate immune-related long non-coding RNA (irlncRNA) signatures for predicting survival and the immune landscape in melanoma patients. We retrieved gene expression files from The Cancer Genome Atlas and the Genotype-Tissue Expression database and extracted all the long non-coding RNAs from the original data. Then, we selected immune-related long non-coding RNAs (irlncRNAs) using co-expression networks and screened differentially expressed irlncRNAs (DEirlncRNAs) to form pairs. ⋯ After grouping patients by the optimal cut-off value, we could better distinguish melanoma patients with different survival outcomes, clinical characteristics, tumor immune status changes, chemotherapeutic drug sensitivity, and specific immunogene biomarkers. The DEirlncRNA pairs showed potential as novel biomarkers to predict the prognosis of melanoma patients. Furthermore, these DEirlncRNA pairs could be used to evaluate treatment efficacy in the future.

Omental liposarcoma is extremely rare, and only a few reports have been published in the literature. Due to the rarity of the disease, establishing a clear diagnosis and formulating a treatment plan may be challenging for clinicians. ⋯ This case report helps clinical oncologists to develop a comprehensive understanding of this disease and treat it accordingly.

Calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg), which play an important role in several cellular processes, is essential for normal development of the skeleton and maintenance of tissue homeostasis. Deficiency of these elements might delay bone fracture recovery or accelerates bone loss. We aimed to examine whether supplementation of trace element (TE) promotes fracture healing in accidentally fracturing adults by involvement of inflammatory mechanism. ⋯ Serum Ca and Mg were significantly increased at Day 5, 7, and 9 following TE supplements. After treatment, serum C-reactive protein, IL-1β, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor alpha were significantly reduced whereas cytokine levels of the TE supplement group were found to be lower than that of the normal treatment group after Day 3. These findings suggest that Ca and Mg levels are associated with the injury severity of multiple fractures, and the supplement could reduce the inflammation, which may be beneficial for the bone recovery and disease process.
