Metabolic syndrome is a pathological condition characterized by abdominal obesity, insulin resistance, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. Conventional treatments for metabolic syndrome have limitations due to their nonselectivity, drug resistance, and low bioavailability. The brown seaweed Laminaria japonica (LJP) is a traditional medicine and food in Asia that has shown pharmacological and biochemical properties favorable to the prevention and treatment of lifestyle-related diseases. We will systematically review randomized controlled trials and in vivo preclinical studies evaluating the efficacy and safety of LJP as a useful treatment for metabolic syndrome. ⋯ Ethical approval was not required, as this study protocol does not include any personal information of the participants.

A case of crescentic glomerulonephritis in a patient with COVID-19 infection: A case report and literature review.
Kidney involvement with COVID-19 infection is a well-known complication, and the majority of kidney involvement is related to ischemic injury/acute tubular injury. However, there are some cases of glomerulonephritis, the etiology of which is not yet known, but an immune process is likely to be the trigger. ⋯ We conducted a literature review of cases of glomerulonephritis associated with COVID-19 and described numerous types of glomerulonephritis. This report highlights the importance of recognizing emerging glomerulonephritis with COVID-19, the different pathological patterns of renal biopsies, and management interventions and responses.

There is still a lack of large-scale clinical studies and evidence-based evidence to prove the relationship between serum amyloid A (SAA) and the severity and prognosis of patients with new coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19). ⋯ SAA can be considered as a biomarker for predicting the severity and prognosis of COVID-19. SAA can be used for early warning of the poor prognosis of COVID-19 and for monitoring the recovery process, which has important clinical value.

Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is one of the common diseases in female urinary system diseases, and the incidence is increasing year by year. Moxibustion therapy, as a kind of acupuncture therapy, has been widely used in the clinical treatment of SUI, but its therapeutic effect and safety have not been scientifically and systematically evaluated. Therefore, the protocol of this systematic review we propose this time is to scientifically evaluate the effectiveness and safety of moxibustion in the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence (FSUI). ⋯ The conclusion of this systematic review will provide evidence for judging whether moxibustion is a safer and more effective intervention for female stress urinary incontinence.

Mental health disorders are highly prevalent among university students. Mental health is important in the healthy growth and overall development of university students. Many studies have indicated that traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) exercise therapies can alleviate anxiety and depression symptoms in university students. However, their definite efficacy and the optimal choice of TCM exercise therapy remain controversial. In this study, we aim to assess and compare the effects of different TCM exercise therapies on anxiety and depression symptoms in university students by network meta-analysis. ⋯ This meta-analysis will provide the evidence for supporting the intervention strategies of TCM exercise therapy for improving negative emotions such as anxiety and depression among university students.OSF REGISTRATION NUMBER: DOI 10.17605/OSF.IO/VTGBE.
