Several studies have reported positive therapeutic effects of electroacupuncture, warm needling, or a combination of the 2 for heel pain; however, the quality of the evidence is limited by methodological limitations. Given that there are no high-quality meta-analyses or reviews incorporating the available evidence, the aim of this study was to systematically review the level I evidence in the literature to determine whether a combination of electroacupuncture and warm needling therapy is more beneficial than acupuncture alone in patients with plantar heel pain syndrome. ⋯ We initially hypothesized that combination therapy would lead to better treatment outcomes.Registration number: 10.17605/OSF.IO/VWBYJ.

Corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by SARS-CoV-2, the pathogenic process of SARS-Cov-2 is related to the angiotensin-2 converting enzyme (ACE-2) on host cells. The genetic polymorphisms among different populations may influence the progression of COVID-19. However, the effects of IFNL4, ACE1, PKR, IFNG, and MBL2 in severe COVID-19 have not been systematically assessed. ⋯ CRD42022301735.

This study was conducted to evaluate the predictive value of spleen stiffness-spleen size-to-platelet ratio risk score (SSPS) as a noninvasive predictor of esophageal varices (EVs) and to compare it with others. In this retrospective study, from April 2017 to October 2018, a total of 65 patients with hepatitis B virus-related cirrhosis who underwent the liver and spleen stiffness (LS, and SS) measurements by 2 dimensional-shear wave elastography and endoscopic evaluation for EVs were enrolled. Liver stiffness-spleen size-to-platelet ratio risk score (LSPS) and SSPS were calculated. ⋯ The AUCs of the LS value, SS value, LSPS, and SSPS for predicting high-risk EVs were 0.55, 0.78, 0.67, and 0.80, respectively. SSPS had the highest specificity, at 96.15%, for predicting EVs. SSPS may be beneficial to exclude from having EVs and it is expected that the frequency of performing endoscopies for screening EVs can be reduced.

Gastric carcinoma (GC) is the fourth most common cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Most patients are diagnosed at later stage, because of few treatment options, the prognosis is poor. In recent years, however, Immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICIs), such as anti- programmed death-1 (PD-1), anti-PD-L1, and anti-cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen 4, have emerged as promising therapeutic agents in GC. Here, we summary the current treatment and advances of immune checkpoint inhibitors in the advanced stage of GC. ⋯ ICIs have shown encouraging treatment efficacy and manageable safety profile in GC. Some biomarkers including PD-L1, MSI-H, EBV, and TMB status could evaluate the efficacy of ICIs in GC.

Primary ovarian abscess in virginal young woman with huge endometriosis cyst: A case report.
Primary ovarian abscess which develops as an isolated lesion without simultaneous tubal infection is a rare entity. Ovarian abscess (OA) is a serious complication of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) rarely seen in virginal girls. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential to prevent further sequela including infertility, ectopic pregnancy, and chronic pelvic pain. ⋯ Although primary ovarian abscess in an adolescent virginal female is rare, given the severity of outcomes following ovarian abscess, this pathology should be considered in the differential diagnosis of virginal adolescents with fever and abdominal pain.
