Coronavirus-2019 (COVID-19) emerged in December 2019, causing significant changes in people's social lives and other human activities. The outbreak halted educational activities throughout the world. The Nigerian experience was unique in that most people were skeptical about the pandemic's existence. ⋯ This implies that the correlation matrix for the C19PS is not an identity matrix. It was revealed that C19PS had good overall reliability (α = .896) and model fit (Root mean square error of approximation = .042, comparative fit index = .943) in a sample of Nigerian preschool practitioners. As a result, C19PS was recommended as a trustworthy tool for identifying persons who suffer from COVID-19 phobia.

We explored the relationship between asthma and early menarche in a representative sample of Korean adolescents. Web-based self-reported data collected from 2006 to 2015 by the Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey were used. Menarche status was divided into "early" (<12 years of age, n = 69,520) and "not early" (≥12 years of age, n = 234,065). ⋯ Multivariate analysis performed after adjusting for multiple confounders revealed a 1.04-fold (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.00-1.07) greater likelihood of asthma in the early menarche than not early menarche group. In addition, the odds ratios for missing school due to asthma for 1 to 3 and ≥4 days per year in the early menarche group were 1.00 (95% CI 1.00-1.02) and 1.21 (95% CI 1.01-1.46), respectively. Adolescents with early menarche exhibited increased incidences of asthma and severe asthma.

Much remains unknown about the impact of initial antibiotic adequacy on mortality in community onset bacterial pneumonia (COBP). Therefore, we performed a study to determine how the adequacy of initial antibiotic therapy affects in-hospital mortality for patients with COBP. We carried out a retrospective cohort study among the 11 BJC Healthcare community and academic hospitals in Missouri and Illinois. ⋯ Among CTX-S patients who were adequately treated, initial use of unnecessarily broad antibiotics was associated with increased in-hospital mortality (P = .003). Ceftriaxone resistance was common in this cohort of culture positive COBP patients. Inappropriate coverage on day of admission was associated with greater likelihood of in-hospital mortality.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra (Xpert Ultra) and Xpert MTB/RIF (Xpert) for the diagnosis of tuberculous pleurisy (TBP) head-to-head using meta-analysis method. ⋯ The sensitivity of Xpert Ultra was moderate but better than that of the Xpert; however, its specificity was lower. The role of Xpert Ultra and Xpert in the early and rapid diagnosis of TBP was limited.

Neonates with moderate to severe encephalopathy benefit significantly from therapeutic hypothermia, with reduced risk of death or disability. However, the need for therapeutic hypothermia for mild neonatal encephalopathy (NE) remains unclear. Therefore, we conducted a protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis to provide evidence supporting therapeutic hypothermia for term or near term neonates with mild NE, including findings of recent long-term outcome studies, as well as novel adjunctive therapies to augment neurodevelopmental outcomes for neonates with NE who receive therapeutic hypothermia. ⋯ The results of this study will provide a theoretical basis for the clinical use of therapeutic hypothermia in mild NE.
