Improving quality of family life among Christian parents of children with low vision in Nsukka catholic diocese using rational emotive family health therapy.
Most Christian parents living with children with low vision have reported to be experiencing psychological disturbances that are affecting the family health. As a result, the quality of family life is being impaired. The experience of parents catering for children with low vision is mainly influenced by psychosocial factors that could determine the quality of family life of such parents. This present study is to investigate the efficacy of rational emotive family health therapy in reducing poor quality of family life among Christian parents of children with low vision in Nsukka Catholic Dioceses. ⋯ This study contributed and validated the efficacy of rational emotive family health therapy in improving quality of family life among parents of children with low vision.

Functional improvement by body-powered 3D-printed prosthesis in patients with finger amputation: Two case reports.
The most common upper limb amputations are finger amputations, resulting in functional limitations that lead to problems with activities of daily living or job loss. For many years, prosthetic options for finger amputations have been limited to passive prostheses. In many countries including South Korea, body-powered finger prostheses have rarely been prescribed due to high cost, lack of experience of physicians and prosthetists, low interest and no coverage by insurance benefits. We report 2 cases of work-related finger amputations in patients who received body-powered 3D-printed finger prostheses. ⋯ Over the past decade, significant advances have been made in 3D-printed prosthetics owing to their light weight, low cost, on-site fabrication, and easy customization. Although there are still several limitations in the general application of 3D-printed finger prostheses, our study suggests that for patients with finger amputations, body-powered 3D-printed finger prostheses have high potential as an additional prosthetic option to the existing passive cosmetic prostheses.

Recurrent spinal cord compression due to extramedullary hematopoiesis in thalassemia patient: Case report.
Spinal cord compression secondary to extramedullary hematopoiesis (EMH) is a rare condition. Variable treatment options have been reported with different efficacy and recurrence rate. Due to its rarity, no clear optimal management guidelines have been established yet. ⋯ Early diagnosis and management of EMH compressing the spinal cord are essential to prevent permanent neurological damage. Diagnosis should be suspected based on the clinical presentation and magnetic resonance imaging findings in a patient with a history of ineffective hemopoiesis. Treatment option remains controversial. Radiotherapy option seems effective, even in recurrent cases, and valid, particularly for those at high risk of surgery or who do not prefer it.

Technetium-99m methyl diphosphonate bone scintigraphy is relatively easily accessible for detecting bone metastases in prostate cancer patients. However, it is subjective and can be challenging to compare images taken at different time points. The bone scan index (BSI) is a more objective evaluation and allows for better comparison of images. ⋯ The first segment consisted of ALP < 375 IU/L and BSI >10%, where ALP and BSI were strongly and positively correlated. The other segment tended to have generally low BSI measurements (<10%) and also had a strong and positive correlation. The BSI was found to be better linearly correlated with ALP than PSA.

A forgotten double-J ureteral stent resulting in an emphysematous perinephric abscess: A case report.
Double-J stents (DJSs) are urologic devices widely used for urinary tract obstruction treatment. Perinephric abscess is a condition with purulent accumulation resulting from urinary tract infection retained between the renal capsule and Gerota's fascia. Emphysematous urinary tract infection in patients with a forgotten DJS is extremely rare. Herein, we report a case of emphysematous perinephric abscess as a complication in a 56-year-old non-diabetic woman who neglected a 10-year-old DJS placed for obstructive uropathy treatment. ⋯ Prompt medical therapy for inflammation and thorough urologic correction of the stent-induced structural deformities are crucial in long-term neglected DJS and resulting emphysematous perinephric abscess. Patients who undergo DJS placement should be systematically followed up to prevent potential neglect of device management.
