Although minimization of cervical spine motion by using a neck collar or manual in-line stabilization is recommended for urgent tracheal intubation (TI) in patients with known or suspected cervical spine injury (CSI), it may worsen glottic visualization. The overall performance of video-stylets during TI in patients with neck immobilization remains unclear. The current meta-analysis aimed at comparing the intubation outcomes of different video-stylets with those of conventional laryngoscopes in patients with cervical immobilization. ⋯ Our results did not support the use of video-stylets as the first choice for patients with neck immobilization. Further studies are required to verify the efficacy of video-stylets in the nonoperating room setting.

During the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, we considered the case of a child with developmental language disorder (DLD) who could not go to the hospital on time to receive timely rehabilitation treatment due to disrupted hospital operations. The application of cloud-based rehabilitation platforms has provided significant advantages and convenience for children with DLD in-home remote rehabilitation. Among them, the JingYun Rehab Cloud Platform is the most widely used in mainland China. ⋯ Children with DLD in the cloud-based rehabilitation group performed significantly better in language abilities, as assessed by the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised, than children with DLD in the control group. Furthermore, for children who participated in remote cloud-based rehabilitation, the frequency of training sessions was proportional to their performance on language, memory, and cognition tasks. This study demonstrated the effectiveness of cloud-based rehabilitation on the JingYun Rehab Cloud Platform in treating children with DLD.

Myringoplasty is a surgical procedure to reconstruct tympanic perforation. However, repair of anterior perforations is still challenging. To analyze the anatomical and hearing outcomes of myringoplasty with a new technique of chondroperichondrial graft via endoscopy, 23 adult patients were retrospectively analyzed. ⋯ The mean ABG improvement in our cohort was 9.83 ± 5.00 dB. The functional graft success rate was 95.65% (22/23). The convenience, reliability, time, and labor savings accrued from the approach described here make it a good choice for repair of anterior perforation of tympanic membrane.

Incidence of thromboembolic complications in hospitalized COVID-19 patients in a medical ward in Japan: A single-center retrospective and prospective observational study.
A high incidence of thromboembolic complications is one of the hallmarks of COVID-19. However, there may be a difference in the incidence of thromboembolic complications between Asian and Western people. In addition, few prospective studies have been conducted to determine the incidence of thromboembolic complications in hospitalized COVID-19 patients in medical wards in Japan. ⋯ Thromboembolic complications of COVID-19 are rare even in severe cases in a medical ward in a Japanese hospital. Further studies are needed to identify severe COVID-19 patients with a higher risk for thromboembolic complications in Japan.

We aimed to assess the feasibility of ultrasound-based tissue attenuation imaging (TAI) and tissue scatter distribution imaging (TSI) for quantification of liver steatosis in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). We prospectively enrolled 101 participants with suspected NAFLD. The TAI and TSI measurements of the liver were performed with a Samsung RS85 Prestige ultrasound system. ⋯ MRI-PDFF proved to be an independent predictor of TAI (β = 1.03; P < .001), while both MRI-PDFF (β = 50.9; P < .001) and liver stiffness (β = -0.86; P < .001) were independent predictors of TSI. Interobserver analysis showed excellent reproducibility of TAI (ICC = 0.95) and moderate reproducibility of TSI (ICC = 0.73). TAI and TSI could be used successfully to diagnose and estimate the severity of hepatic steatosis in routine clinical practice.
