Intraplaque hemorrhage (IPH) and ulcers are the major findings of unstable plaques. In addition, initial symptoms are associated with postprocedural complications after carotid artery stenting (CAS). The aim of this study was to determine the safety of CAS using an embolic protection device in symptomatic patients with severe carotid artery stenosis and unstable plaques such as IPH and ulcers. ⋯ IPH and plaque ulceration are risk factors in symptomatic carotid stenosis. However, IPH and plaque ulceration were not a significant risk factors for cerebral embolism during protected carotid artery stent placement in patients with carotid stenosis. Protected CAS might be feasible and safe despite the presence of unstable plaques.

To compare femoral sagittal axis between navigated total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and conventional TKA. A total of 136 cases were assigned to group 1 (navigated TKA) and 77 cases were assigned to group 2 (conventional TKA). Specifically, this study targeted patients with degenerative osteoarthritis. ⋯ During navigated TKA, imageless navigation does not consider the anatomical variation of the femoral shaft. Therefore, surgeons should take into consideration that when performing navigated TKA, a femoral implant could be inserted more extended for the anatomical sagittal axis of the distal femur than for the conventional TKA. Also, surgeon should know that the degree of extension insertion of the femoral implant increases as femoral anterior bowing increases.

This study aimed to analyze trends in the prevalence, awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension and associated factors in persons 15 years and older from 2005 to 2019 in Mongolia. National data were analyzed from 21,342 people (≥15 years) who participated in 4 cross-sectional STEPwise Approach to NCD Risk Factor Surveillance surveys in Mongolia (2005, 2009, 2013, or 2019) and had complete blood pressure measurements. The prevalence, awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension were calculated using sociodemographic factors within each study year. ⋯ The prevalence of hypertension among Mongolian adults has decreased in recent years. Levels of hypertension awareness were unchanged, treatment decreased, and control increased. Increased health promotion, detection, and treatment of hypertension in Mongolia are indicated.

Changes in the ST-segment in aVR of electrocardiogram have been used to predict the morbidity of left main and/or 3-vessel disease (LM/3-VD) in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). However, the association with patient prognosis has rarely been reported. A total of 274 patients diagnosed with ACS were retrospectively evaluated following allocation into 1 of 3 groups: the ST-segment elevation (STE) group ≥ 0.05 mV, ST-segment depression (STD) group ≥ 0.05 mV, and the Isoelectric group in aVR. ⋯ It was found that STE or STD ≥ 0.05 mV in aVR was an independent predictor of MACE. STE ≥ 0.05 mV in aVR is associated with LM/3-VD. Furthermore, ST-segment deviation in aVR may have prognostic value of MACE and associated with higher GRACE risk scores in patients with ACS.

There are various factors for the cause of cervical central stenosis (CCS), such as osteophyte, cervical-disc degeneration, and cervical ligamentum flavum hypertrophy. However, the pedicle of the cervical vertebra has not yet been analyzed for its relationship with CCS. We created a new morphologic parameter called the cervical-pedicle thickness (CPT) to assess the association between CCS and the cervical pedicle. ⋯ For the prognostic value of the CPT as a predictor of CCS, ROC analysis indicated that the best cutoff score for the CPT was 4.18 mm, with 93.9% sensitivity, 92.9% specificity, and AUC 0.97. Greater CPT was highly associated with a possibility of CCS. This conclusion will be helpful for assessing the CCS patients.
