This study aimed to explore the growth rates and influencing factors of the length and weight of preterm and full-term infants in the urban areas of Hubei province to provide a reference for child health and related clinical fields. A birth cohort study was used to analyze the growth rates and influencing factors of the length and weight of preterm and full-term infants using a multivariate regression analysis. ⋯ Meanwhile, there were some influencing factors that had significant differences by their contribution to the growth rates of the length and weight of preterm and full-term infants. This study proposed that perinatal factors were attached more importance to the growth rates of preterm infants in the urban areas of Hubei province.

Effects of Phellinus linteus extract on immunity improvement: A CONSORT-randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial.
Immunity protects the body from external threats and prevents the development of cancer. Biological response modifiers extracted from natural sources are being actively studied, and the immunostimulatory and anticancer effects of various types of fungi have been reported. However, there are no previous clinical studies on the immune-enhancing effect of Phellinus linteus (PL). Lactate dehydrogenase cytotoxicity assay is a prerequisite in order to get approval for using PL as a raw material in functional supplements and medicines in Korea. However, due to the absence of precedent clinical trials, the use of PL in supplements has been hindered. but there is no precedent clinical trial using it. We conducted a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial to confirm the efficacy and safety of PL extract for the improvement of immunity using the lactate dehydrogenase cytotoxicity assay. ⋯ PL extract may improve immunity and is safe to be consumed orally.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a chronic and progressive disease, with advancing age, the morbidity of which will increase exponentially. Circular ribonucleic acids (RNAs; circRNAs) have gained a growing attention in the development of AF in recent years. The purpose of this study is to explore the mechanism of circRNA regulation in AF, in particular, the intricate interactions among circRNA, microRNA (miRNA), and messenger RNA (mRNA). ⋯ Besides, 6 hub genes (C-X-C chemokine receptor type 4 [CXCR4], C-X-C chemokine receptor type 2 [CXCR2], C-X-C motif chemokine 11 [CXCL11], neuromedin-U, B1 bradykinin receptor, and complement C3) were screened from constructing a PPI network. Finally, a circRNA-miRNA-hub gene subnetwork with 10 regulatory axes was constructed to describe the interactions among the differential circRNAs, miRNA, and hub genes. We speculated that hsa_circRNA_0056281/hsa_circRNA_0006665 -hsa-miR-613-CXCR4/CXCR2/CXCL11 regulatory axes and hsa_circRNA_0003638-hsa-miR-1207-3p-CXCR4 regulatory axis may be associated with the pathogenesis of AF.

Cold weather injuries can be devastating and life changing. Biopsychosocial factors such as homelessness and mental illness (especially substance use disorders [SUDs]) are known risk factors for incurring frostbite. Based on clinical experience in an urban level 1 trauma center, we hypothesized that complications following frostbite injury would be influenced by homelessness, SUDs, and other forms of mental illness. ⋯ The study results suggest that additional hospital and community resources may need to be marshaled to prevent vulnerable patients with biopsychosocial risk factors from having complications after frostbite. Complications place a high downstream burden on healthcare systems. Clinicians caring for frostbite patients with comorbid conditions can use these findings to inform care and discharge decisions.

To understand the changes in opioid cessation surrounding the release of CDC guidelines and changes in state Medicaid coverage at the individual patient level. ⋯ The increase in opioid cessation after 2016 suggests the potential effects of the CDC guidelines on opioid prescribing and underscores the need for further research on the relationship between opioid cessation and subsequent change in pain control, quality of life, and opioid toxicity.
