Hydration of fat-free mass (FFM), defined as the ratio of total body water (TBW) to FFM (TBW/FFM), is stable at 0.739 in adult mammals. However, an increase in the TBW/FFM ratio is common in hemodialysis (HD) patients. This study aimed to evaluate the determinants of TBW/FFM and investigate its predictive value for the prognosis of all-cause mortality in HD patients. ⋯ We calculated the ROC curve (AUC) of TBW/FFM, ECW, ECW/TBW, and intracellular water (ICW) to compare the discriminatory capacities of these parameters in predicting 180-day mortality. The AUC for TBW/FFM (AUC = 0.849; 95% CI, 0.745-0.953) exhibited better discriminatory potential than ECW (AUC = 0.562; 0.410-0.714), although it had a similar predictive potential as the ECW/TBW ratio (AUC = 0.831; 0.731-0.932). High TBW/FFM can be used as a valuable prognostic index for predicting all-cause mortality in patients on HD.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a malignant tumor of urinary system, and clear cell RCC (ccRCC) is the major pathological subtype. A high-frequency mutation in SETD2 gene is related to the occurrence, development, and poor prognosis of RCC. ⋯ According to the results of this study, the IPS can be a promising biomarker of ccRCC to guide its prognosis and treatment.

It is known that approximately 10% of successful quitters relapse annually. This study aimed to investigate the factors related to long-term smoking relapse in individuals who succeeded in maintaining smoking cessation for 6 months after attending a regional smoking cessation program. This study enrolled 943 individuals registered for the regional smoking cessation program at the Busan Smoking Cessation Center in 2018-2019 who maintained smoking cessation for 6 months. ⋯ In the analysis of smoking relapse during the entire period, we observed a significant association with the belief that smoking relieves stress (hazard ratio [HR]: 2.65, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.52-4.61), single-person households (HR: 1.95, 95% CI: 1.16-3.26), and high levels of emotional stress (HR: 1.72, 95% CI: 1.04-2.85). Long-term follow-up is necessary to prevent smoking relapse in single-person households, individuals who believe that smoking relieves stress, and those experiencing high levels of subjective emotional stress. Interventional therapies for stress relief and awareness improvement in smokers need to be developed.

Dynamic contrast-enhanced MR imaging (DCE-MRI) has been widely used for the evaluation of renal arteries. This method is also useful for tumor and renal parenchyma characterization. The very fast MRI may provide stable and precise information regarding vasculature and soft tissues. ⋯ DCE-MRI for the evaluation of renal vasculatures and tumors using F-DISCO with or without CS can be performed with high temporal and spatial resolutions in normal and wide-bore 3T systems. This information can be obtained in a stable fashion throughout the dynamic contrast study. CS can additionally provide benefits that the total imaging time may be shorter than without CS.

The study aimed to evaluate the clinical significance of thyroid hormone-responsive (THRSP) and explore its relevant pathways in thyroid carcinoma (THCA). The gene expression data of THRSP were obtained and the prognostic significance of THRSP in THCA was analyzed through various bioinformatics databases. Then, the factors influencing THRSP mRNA expression were explored, and the function of THRSP in predicting the lymph node metastasis (LNM) stage was determined. ⋯ According to Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) and gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) on THRSP-associated genes, THRSP was positively related to metabolic pathways. The upregulation of THRSP predicted a good OS in THCA patients. Furthermore, THRSP might inhibit THCA progression through positive regulation of metabolism-associated pathways.
