ALK (anaplastic lymphoma kinase) inhibitors may be used to treat patients with ALK mutant metastatic nonsmall cell cancer (NSCLC). This study aimed to investigate the factors affecting the patients response to treatment with ALK-positive metastatic NSCLC. Data of the patients were investigated retrospectively. ⋯ The cut-off level of ALK positivity was found to be 33% in patients with an objective response. The real-life effectiveness of ALK inhibitors in NSCLC patients with ALK mutations was shown in this research. We determined that having less than 3 metastatic sites, having a high ALK positivity ratio, and being female were all good predictors of ALK inhibitor response.

Gastric adenocarcinoma of the fundic gland is a rare, well-differentiated variant of gastric adenocarcinoma, which has been proposed as a novel disease entity. As a result of mismatch repair deficiency, microsatellite instability has been frequently observed in various human cancers and widely performed in the area of cancer pathogenesis. Herein, we report a case of gastric adenocarcinoma of fundic gland presented with microsatellite instability phenotype. ⋯ These results suggested that the mutation of Wnt component genes associated with Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway activation may play a role in promoting the occurrence of gastric adenocarcinoma of fundic gland. This is the first report of a gastric adenocarcinoma of fundic gland with microsatellite instability. These findings modify our understanding of the pathophysiology of gastric adenocarcinoma of fundic gland.

Studies on early onset schizophrenia are limited because of their low prevalence but the reported results stated that early onset is associated with a poorer outcome. The present research analyzed the stability rate of the psychotic-related disorders from childhood to adult life. The study was based on an observational, retrospective, descriptive analysis study. ⋯ Of the 42 subjects who presented affective symptoms during childhood, 71.43% also presented affective symptoms into adulthood. These findings indicate an important stability rate of psychosis from childhood and adulthood and come in accordance with the theory of overlap between psychotic and affective disorders. The results underline the importance of an accurate diagnosis of early and very early onset schizophrenia (VEOS), the need for early and multimodal intervention, but also the need for long-term management of these patients and continuing research regarding psychotic-related disorders in children and adolescents.

Scoliosis is a spinal disease in which the Cobb angle is >10°. Scoliosis treatment can be surgical or conservative, and clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for conservative treatments have been updated since 2006. There have been several articles regarding the efficacy and safety of Korean medicine (KM) in treating scoliosis, but there are no CPGs. ⋯ KMDs used multiple KM treatments, including acupuncture, Chuna, cupping, pharmacopuncture, and herbal medicine, and they emphasized the importance of KM more in nonstructural scoliosis than in structural scoliosis. Although the perception of the prognosis of scoliosis was in agreement with that suggested by previous guidelines, KMDs showed outstanding focus on reduction of symptoms of scoliosis and improvement of quality of life. Despite some limitations, including low participation and the need for consulting other medical practitioners, our study may be helpful for the development of KM-CPGs because it is the first to analyze the perceptions of KMDs on scoliosis and to collect preliminary data that are of significance for preparing clinical guidelines.

The objective of this study is to explore the prognostic factors of double primary cancer patients with lung cancer as the first primary cancer (FPC). The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database is a database established by the National Institutes of Research for cancer registration purposes, which collects relatively complete demographic characteristics and clinical data for assessing the epidemiological characteristics of cancer worldwide. Clinical data on patients with a clear histopathological diagnosis of double primary with lung cancer as the FPC were identified and collected from the SEER database from 2010 to 2015. ⋯ In addition, the most common site of first primary lung cancer in patients with double primary cancer was the right upper lobe (33.3%). A total of 14 independent prognostic factors were included, and the constructed survival nomogram had high accuracy and clinical applicability. The nomogram established in this study can help to raise awareness of clinical workers and the importance of such diseases, and guide the treatment and follow-up strategies.
